Highly rated Tottenham youngster under consideration for first-team inclusion by Ange Postecoglou

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Football London, Tottenham’s highly rated young center-back Alfie Dorrington is one of the players being considered for a potential step up into the first team under manager Ange Postecoglou.

The 18-year-old recently signed a new contract with the club, committing his future until 2026.

Despite Dorrington’s potential, Tottenham are also set to sign Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth around £3 million.

Phillips, another highly rated center-back, adds further competition in the position, and it will be interesting to see how his arrival impacts Dorrington’s progress.

However, neither Dorrington nor Phillips are seen as alternatives to Tottenham’s main target of signing top-class center-backs who would immediately slot into the first team.

The club has been strongly linked with Micky van de Ven, Edmond Tapsoba, and Victor Nelsson in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.

In addition to potential signings, Tottenham are also considering selling some players in the central defense position. Players like Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, and Joe Rodon have been linked with a summer exit.

A recent report even suggested a possible player-plus-cash deal involving Sanchez and Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted that central defense is a priority area for the club in this transfer window, and they are working hard to make the necessary transfers to strengthen the backline.

Tottenham have already addressed several areas of the squad this summer, signing Guglielmo Vicario as Hugo Lloris’s replacement, adding James Maddison as a world-class attacking midfielder, and securing permanent deals for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro, as well as securing a free transfer for Manor Solomon.

If Spurs successfully sign their preferred center-back targets, it is likely that Phillips and Alfie Dorrington will face stiff competition to break into the first team this season.
