Tottenham appointed Australian manager Ange Postecoglou from Celtic last month, an appointment which was not a popular name compared to the other managers linked with the club at that time.
However, he has been nothing but impressive since coming in. The mood in the camp has visibly lifted and the players seem to very keen on playing under him.
We saw some glimpses of how the manager is aiming to set up Tottenham for next season an it was some of the best attacking football the club has played since Pochettino days.
The manager has been busy rebuilding the squad according to his requirements, making significant signings such as James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon. Additionally, permanent deals for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro have been completed.
With an attacking style of play, the defense becomes a crucial area of focus for Postecoglou. The manager has acknowledged the need for top-class center-backs to solidify the defense, as the attacking approach may leave the backline exposed.
Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou admitted that it is a position that they are working on. When asked if he would like to bring in a new centre-back before the Premier League season gets underway, he said:
“Yeah, I think that’s definitely our intention, absolutely.”
“We’ve been working on it for a while and we’ll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.”
So far they have been strongly linked with the likes of Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. Another player linked with a move is Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson, and it is suggested that the clubs are working on a deal that will see Davinson Sanchez go the other way.
Tottenham’s focus on strengthening the defense indicates their commitment to Postecoglou’s vision of building a balanced and competitive squad capable of playing attacking football while also maintaining defensive solidity.
