“He’s deemed not good enough” Pundit reckons Oliver Skipp has pushed this Spurs player towards the exit door

By Bruce Grove -

Former Scotland manager, Alex McLeish reckons the emergence of Oliver Skipp has brought an end to Harry Winks’ Tottenham career.

Skipp returned from his loan spell at Norwich in the summer to break into the Tottenham team this season.

Winks had struggled for playing time in the last campaign and had hoped for a change with a new manager now in charge of Tottenham.

However, the midfielder has seen more competition from Skipp and Nuno Espirito Santo has preferred the former Norwich loanee.

McLeish says Winks will be concerned that he was out of favour under the last manager and now the current one and will probably feel it is best for him to leave the club now.

He insists the midfielder is very talented and he still does think about him even when Skipp is being discussed because Winks was similarly impressive when he first broke into the Tottenham first-team.

McLeish told Football Insider: “Harry Winks was the one in my head when you mentioned Skipp.

“When he (Winks) came through, he looked to all intents and purposes the real deal, didn’t he? A really good player. I still believe there’s a great player in there.

“Harry probably now feels if the new manager is not going to give me the chance again, and the last manager, it was the same, I need to go and get myself a new club.

“Harry came through and we all loved his freshness, his energy, his enthusiasm when he first came into the team.

“All of a sudden he’s deemed not good enough. This is why I’m bracketing the young boy Skipp to Harry. It’ll be interesting to see how he develops.”
