“He’s a young player and I decided to protect him,” Tottenham rumours piling the pressure on target

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham’s delay in completing their move for Kim Min-jae is unsettling the young South Korean.

The Beijing Goan defender has been linked with a move away from the Chinese side for a long time now.

Tottenham have been on his trail for the past few months after it emerged that they will be losing Jan Vertoghen on a free transfer.

The Belgian has since left Spurs and they will need to sign a new centre back to cover for his loss.

While rumours of his transfer away from the Chinese Super League persists, the defender seems to be under pressure as he plays for his club and he was recently asked to skip a press conference to protect him from the media scrutiny over his future.

His manager, Bruno Genesio, formerly of Lyon revealed in the press conference that the defender had to sit it out because of those constant questions he faces.

“I’m going to be very honest with you,” said the former Lyon boss via NDTV.

“We scheduled Kim to be here at this press conference but I was told that there are lots of rumours and news about him.

“He’s a young player and I decided to protect him,” added the 53-year-old Frenchman.

“I think it’s best for him to concentrate on Thursday’s match and not be exposed to more criticism and questions that will put him in a difficult position.”

It remains unclear what level Spurs are in their bid to land him, but they face competition from Lazio.
