Here is Sherwood’s theory about why one Spurs player hasn’t been playing much

By Bruce Grove -

Tim Sherwood claims that the reason why Giovanni Le Celso cannot get into this Tottenham team at the moment is that Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to play in a way that he would be accommodated.

Tottenham is having one of their better starts to a season with Jose Mourinho’s team enjoying win after win.

It is hard to fault the tactics of the Portuguese manager at the moment as long as the results keep coming.

He has had to adapt his system in a way that his front two of Harry Kane and Son Heung Min have been able to produce the goals that they need while the players behind them have been protecting their defence well.

Sherwood believes that it is this new style of play that has prevented Le Celso from seeing a lot of playing time in this campaign, even though he was one of the most improved players at the club last season.

“Lo Celso, at the back end of last season, was the most improved midfielder Tottenham had,” Sherwood told Sky Sports as quoted by The Express.

“And I really enjoyed watching him play.

“He cannot get a kick of the football, at the moment because Jose doesn’t want to play that way.

“He’s relying on the front three to win him the game and the rest of the players behind have to be responsible and defensive.

“At the moment, it’s working.

“Jose Mourinho saying there in his interview, ‘we are playing the best football and it’s ‘free [flowing]’. No, it’s not the best football. But they still attack. They still have a threat.”

Yes I’m sure he’ll improve over time, like Eriksen did. He got 16 goals in La Liga plus many assists, I’d like to see him get 10 or so for us per season. I reckon it’ll click for him in the ropey first, and then he’ll push on.

Just needs more games. Bit a consistency in the team. Him&ndom gonna smash it left and right side. (PEH on the cover) Goals and assists will come. He’s better than lamella (productivity and ability wise) he should be getting on the pitch much more and will do. Gotta get him proper fit though. Extra fit.

Haven’t seem anything that special from him tbh. He’s a bit like Lamela; works his socks off for the side, runs about a lot, but not much end product so far, very few goals and assists. Hopefully it’s just because he’s new in our league and it’s going to take him time to settle down. Hopefully he’ll improve and start hurting teams more.
Ndombele is the one that’s going to be really special imo.

I think the reason Lo Celso looked so good last season was because the rest were playing crap.

Unintelligent comment from Sherwood, as it has been widely reported that Lo Celso has been injured. Given the far greater squad depth (unlike last season) there has been no need to rush him back. Sherwood would do rather better to check the facts, before opening his self-opinionated pie hole!

Or, he’s been injured and as we have a large, performing squad there was no need to rush him back. Who knows? (Probably not Timmy).
