“…he would take it” – Journalist makes big claim about Spurs’ managerial target hailed as ‘best in the world’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino would jump at the chance to return to the club if an offer was made, according to journalist Dan Kilpatrick.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Kilpatrick claimed that the Argentine was more keen on the job than the club seemed to be.

He said:

“As we touched on, it would be beneficial for Chelsea to make a quick appointment for Spurs and then that obstacle is out of the way. In terms of what Spurs are doing it’s pretty obvious that Poch is more keen on the job than Spurs are on bringing him back. I think it’s fair to say that if he was offered the job today he would take it.”

Pochettino’s previous tenure at Tottenham was highly successful, as he transformed the club into a top-four side during his five-year stint.

He consistently led them to top-four finishes, and the 2016/2017 season saw the team fall just short of the Premier League title, finishing in second place.

Under Pochettino’s guidance, Tottenham also reached the Champions League final in the 2018/2019 season. Although they ultimately lost to Liverpool, it was still one of the club’s best European runs.

Tottenham are not the only team that would peak Pochettino’s interest. There were reports that Ancelloti’s long-term future at the club is uncertain and Real Madrid might turn to Pochettino as a replacement.

That being said, if Spurs’ interest is Pochettino is real and Kilpatrick’s claims are true, Levy will need to act quicker to make an offer for him.

The Argentine who has previously been hailed as ‘the best manager in the world’ by Townsend will be welcomed back by fans and might also help convince Kane to sign a new contract.
