“He stayed because he thought there was going to be a turnaround at Tottenham this season” Pundit says Kane will leave

Harry Kane will leave Tottenham at the end of this season if they continue to struggle. This is the opinion of Noel Whelan.

The striker has been one of the best in the world for a very long time now and he has proven that this season once again.

Despite his reputation, trophies have eluded him so far in his career.

He said in the summer that he wasn’t staying at Tottenham for the sake of it, he would only remain at the club if they match his ambition.

Spurs made a good start to the season and even topped the Premier League at some point.

However, they have been on a poor run of form recently, even though they are in the final of the Carabao Cup.

Whelan reckons that Kane only stayed on because he thought that there would be a turnaround at Spurs that would see them win trophies.

Now that it hasn’t happened, he is likely to leave them at the end of this campaign.

Whelan told Football Insider: “I think there’s a lot of lack of confidence in the team right now, they can’t seem to buy a win and they’ve got to find it very quickly if they’re going to get back to a team where they’re putting on decent performances.

“They’re still trying to get in the Champions League for next season, because that’s a risk, massively – do these players really want to be playing in the Europa League?

“Well, you ask him, as Harry Kane that. He stayed because he thought there was going to be a turnaround at Tottenham this season, he was going to be fighting for things.

“Now they’re not – are they going to win the League Cup? Well… The problem is you’ve got Harry Kane who stayed there because he wanted to win things and he felt that he would do this season.

“Now they’re on the cusp of losing him at the end of the season because how long can a good player stay at a club without winning something when they’ve got the best years ahead of them. That’s the biggest problem.”

Depressingly accurate, another scenario is he gets a major injury and never gets back to his high standards.
His ankles have done incredibly well considering and he has adapted his game every season.
What ever happens and I hope he stays due to the fact he has belief in Maureen and the squad.
If he never kicked a ball again I believe he has legend status already.

Unfortunately, Bruce, I see a messy situation unfolding here. Levy and ENIC have proven themselves to Harry to be mind-bogglingly inept, and it’s unfathomable that, with his 28th birthday coming up, he’s under any illusions that he’s going to fulfil his potential staying here under the current ownership.
I think Levy will let him go, but only if the money is right.
Problem is, the right money isn’t going to be affordable to even the richest clubs at the moment, and so Levy refuses to sell, and we end up with yet another unhappy star player stuck in this depressing merry-go-round that is ENIC’s Tottenham.
The alternative is that Kane stays professional and keeps his head down, and ends up with the legacy of being one of the best players the country has ever produced, ending his career having won nothing.
It’s not good.

He won’t get anywhere near £200 million, those Neymar days are long gone.

I can see a Bale scenario, with the expense of the rebuild if Kane goes Levy can attempt to buy half a team of buyrite players with the 200 mill or whatever…it’s a lose lose, can’t see the money required going into the squad if Kane stays and if he’s sold the talisman is gone. It’s looking bleak.

In case Noel hasn’t noticed the season isn’t over yet. The only person who knows is Harry Kane and he is saying nothing.

I have been thinking about the signing of Bale recently and I think that he in particular was brought in to convince Harry that the club was serious about surrounding him with the talent he needs.

The Bale deal wasn’t therefore a purely football deal, it was a symbolic move and it was probably intended to shift merchandise and bring better publicity to the club after the problems in the spring and to give the fans a lift. With so much weight on it it’s little surprise what has happened.
