“He needs to be lasting 90 minutes in a game.” More is expected from Tottenham man

By Bruce Grove -

Stephen Warnock says that Tanguy Ndombele has to start playing the full 90 minutes for Tottenham.

The Frenchman has been one of the most improved players at Tottenham this season after a very poor first season at the club.

He opened the scoring for the Lilywhites against Wolves yesterday and he was one of their best players on the night.

He did his job in midfield very well and he was easily one of the best players on the pitch from both teams.

However, as is almost customary now, Jose Mourinho removed him from the game on the 70th minute and Spurs would go on to miss his presence and concede the equaliser late on.

Warnock praised the former Lyon man for his impressive performance on the night and said that he needs to get fitter so that he can play more game minutes for the club.

“He was really impressive today,” said Warnock via Football London

“He started the game extremely well, picking up a good position on the edge of the box. It is poor defending from Wolves but he gets a good connection on the ball.

“He grew into the game and it was all about his strength, getting his body in between players and driving forward. He is closing players down and then having the ability to get away from people and pick a pass.

“He left the field on around 70 minutes and Jose Mourinho will want him to get fitter. He needs to be lasting 90 minutes in a game.”

A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bushes. Jose blunder. he sets the team up to play to the death. Stop blaming the players Unless he was coming off on a stretcher, no way should he sub out Tanguy. He was move with vigor sizzling pass his man. The premeditated or just plain stubborness of Jose getting more awful and unwatchable by the games. My buddy who is a Manu fan warms me last year. It will be a matter of time before Jose shows up.

What is up with the Harry Winks hsting. first of all PEH and Sissoko as your two holding mid cannot take the from Lloris or Dier and link the next pass consistently. Fact!! Winks does all that. He is the only holding mid that can actually do that on the team of the 3 holding mids with major minutes. Is he not a great defender but why do you need 2 holding PEH and Sissoko that with almost the same skill sets. None can fetch and distribute the ball. Winks even with limited range does it better. Therefore the odd man out is Sissoko. Locelso, Tanguy and Dele are the attaking option and are finishing games without any of them on the pitch. Watch the game, you might learn something.

Unfortunately those type of players are thin on the ground and therefore expensive.

With you on this. Both may be talented but don’t do nearly enough for me even allowing for injuries. Sabitzer in January would be a great addition.

I’d add Hojbjerg to the list of Ndombele and Lo Celso.

Ndombele (and perhaps, even if a little less so, Lo Celso) is the only midfield player in the current squad that you can trust to give the ball to in a tight or difficult situation and he will not lose it, give it away or just hoof it upfield. That is what this current squad so sorely misses and is why we concede so much territory and possession. I know lots of people like to blame Jose but if the current squad is made up of midfielders who are not comfortable or capable of taking the ball in tight positions in difficult parts of the pitch and keeping it and making ground or at least winning free kicks, then we will always be under the cosh because we can’t keep or recycle the bloody ball. Harry Winks is a prime example of what we do not have. Give him the ball in a tight spot and he either pings it straight to someone in a far worse position than him or loses possession altogether. He must be a nightmare to play alongside. We will not challenge until we fill the midfield with players that can keep the ball. I’d like a couple of defenders that can do it too. Without them we cannot build any platform from which to play. I’m sure Jose knows it and will try to address it in January. Sabitzer of RB Leipzig is being mentioned and he would be an ideal number 8 for us. Bye bye Harry Winks.

Jury is still out on both but I have seen enough to know the talent is there. The problem for Tanguy is his fitness and fitness and injury have stopped Lo Celso from establishing himself.

I disagree David, an outstanding player who is going to terrorise Premier League teams for years to come. When fully fit he will be even better.

Bit part player he is Ndombele often flatters to deceive! In fact I would not miss him if he was sold as you could hardly call him a resounding success!
