“He is very lucky” Pundit says Man City match-winner should have been sent off

By Bruce Grove -

Micah Richards reckons Aymeric Laporte should have been sent off for Manchester City in the first half after two cynical fouls on Lucas Moura.

City beat Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final this evening with the Frenchman scoring a late goal for them.

However, if referee Paul Tierney wasn’t so lenient, the defender should have seen red in the first half.

It was a game that Spurs had to win to end their trophy drought, which has lasted for over a decade.

They fired Jose Mourinho and made Ryan Mason their interim boss last week.

The Special One was a master in winning this competition and would probably have put out similar tactics today.

However, going a man down would have affected City and Richards, on punditry duty, admits that Laporte got away with one there.

He says although he got a yellow card for a second foul, the initial one also warranted a yellow card.

‘The first one is definitely a yellow card, and so is the other one,’ Richards explain to Sky Sports at half-time of the final as quoted by Mail Online

‘He should be sent off. The second one, he does get the yellow card and is fortunate to stay on the pitch.

‘He is very lucky, I’ll be totally honest with that. But sometimes in the game you get that bit of luck.’

Julian Nagelsmann begins talks with Bayern Munich I think that rules him out 1 down 2 to go Brendan Rogers or Sarri?

In fairness that hasnt happened since the defeat to Leceister… I suspect with the exception of Moura & Lamela those that are on the bench put in substandard performances when brought on possibly because they believe they should be starting…

Yeah but Chelsea went shopping in Harrods….surely we can find something in John Lewis…, altho I fear we’ll end up in Primark. It must be said…what are our scouts doing? I mean how difficult can it be to find a midfielder with energy who is comfortable on the ball, and can make simple passes with both feed to those in more forward positions than himself?

Agree with all of that. We brought on Ryan’s mates. We lost but the dressing room harmony is intact.

£100 mill that was 3-4 seasons ago it buys you peanuts in markets now look Chelsea last year they spent £200mill and they are struggling to position 4 let alone to be 3 or 2 place that is how far Spurs are behind with all due respect.

When has Bale ever turned up against half decent opposition? Did Mason not see Bales effort against the gooners? As for bringing on Alli when we were down….lols…. haha His predecessor tried all of that with no joy . Its funny in a way, I bet Mourinho was chucking to himself when he saw that…, even more so followed by a poor challenge by Aurrier leading to a goal… I seriously think unless 100 million or so is spent on the sqaud then irrespective of who comes in.. this time next season, we’re lower down the table than where we are now…

And worst part of all is no hope for foreseeable future Levy ceding the football decisions of Spurs which makes you think what can any Tottenham fan can do to end this nightmare.

I feel really down about where the club is going and the ESL debacle really made it clear we aren’t owned by ‘fans’ of Spurs. No manager will succeed under ENIC as it isn’t part of their project. They just tried to fool us it was.

I thought the subs were poor. Showed his naivety but he was put in that position by the club management. Wouldn’t expect a novice to beat a manager who has won all his finals bar one.

I got you, for a minute I thought you were complaining about ref decisions but you cleared thanks you cannot have it both ways not work hard in the game and complain ref decision for god’s sake Spurs have only 2 shots for 90 minutes vs City’s what 21 or 22 there is no game there to complain it was 1 way traffic and anybody who have a football brain knew it was coming sorry nobody will convince me where Jose a proved manager and winner failed a young lad with 0 experience in management and record will succeed if you believed that you need to go and visit doctors cause there is something wrong with you I’m not talking about you James the last part is in general talk cheers.

In fairness city are miles ahead of us…in games like that you can only expect your team to give their all or adopt tactics to give you the best possible chance of winning.. not giving Tanguy any minutes despite him being our most creative midfielder was always going to end in failure. If you look at most of the Spurs fans comments, hardly any are directed at Mason for the team selected & use of subs. I could of cried when I saw Moura being subbd, he was our most dangerous player….

No, we could have been four down at halftime. City were the better team, I can live with that. What I don’t accept is that City worked harder than Spurs. That is not acceptable. The very least you can do is match the other teams physical efforts.

We certainly won’t get it with limp performances like that. My point was the players can’t say they’re hurting but come out and be outworked.

We’re not getting champions league football…I dont see us finishing above Leicester or Chelsea, and City & Utd are petty much guaranteed… besides it would be a travesty of justice if this current squad makes CL football…. infact, arguably the longer we go without CL football the quicker Levy is going to either invest more money into the sqaud or sell up. Ultimately tho, if you look at the big 6 all competing for 4 spots…Arsenal & ourselves without significant investment in the sqaud simply arent good enough, and that is reflected by the league table.

One good thing was the Spurs fans at the game getting behind the team and still singing when they went a goal down.

We can be proud of that and proud of Ryan for stepping up in difficult times when he could have taken the easy way out.

In the press conference Ryan said the players were hurting. Well let them give something back to the fans and give it everything in the last few games and get us Champions League football.

The game is finished why and why won’t do any good for that game we lost another final and counting the question is what needs to do now and here for Spurs team where we go from here any ideas will do good at least.

Some quarters of Tottenham are asking what if Mourinho has been in charge of this final? that is exactly why he has been sacked not to win the cup, so that the likes of Kane and Son not to think to stay and demand more heavy investment to the team and to move the deadwood for next season which Levy won’t have any excuse for it since Mourinho fulfilled his part of a trophy so in order to shut down that box just sack Jose nominate rookie interim fail to win the cup, get another manager who will again agree for process and project rebuild and buy Levy’s vision again and start all over again the roundabout continues Levy the master what you know?

Agree but if they had been it’s unlikely they would have dived in subsequently to risk a sending off. We were outclassed. As usual.
