Bryan King feels outcast Sergio Reguilón is unlikely to be in any hurry to leave Tottenham.
The North London club had an impressive transfer window where they signed some of their top targets and even offloaded players who were surplus to requirements. But, they couldn’t find a solution for Sergio Reguilon who hasn’t been a part of their plans for over two years now. Tottenham want to get him off their books and are pushing for him to join a Turkish club before the end of their transfer window on Friday.
But, according to former Spurs scout Brayn King, Reguilon is unlikely to be in any rush to leave Tottenham. He still has a year left on his deal and given the kind of wages he is on, the Spanish full-back will not accept a move to Turkiye for a much lower fee.
While speaking on Tottenham News, King said: “Reguilón still has another year left on his contract with the club.
“Therefore, why should he leave? This is where players and their agents can control a transfer.
“He doesn’t have to leave, but it would mean him missing a year of senior football. If he is wise, and his agent is wise, he is at an age where he will want to be playing regularly.
“However, he is on very big money at Tottenham and it depends on whether or not a Turkish club can match that. Why should he leave for less money? He holds the cards.”
The transfer window in Turkiye is fast approaching its deadline and Spurs have warned the 27-year-old that he will have to sit on the sidelines if he doesn’t end up accepting a move away. While he is unlikely to get any game time if he ends up staying at the North London club, King still feels Reguilon might not have any interest in moving to Turkiye. He might be willing to sit on the sidelines and collect a lucrative wage which could be a massive blow for Tottenham.
Six months down the line, he could agree to a pre-contract with an overseas club which could result in a huge financial boost for him. As a result, Reguilon might not see any benefits in leaving Spurs at this stage. Meanwhile, Tottenham will have to figure out a creative way if they want to get the Spanish international off their books before the end of the transfer window in Turkiye.
