Tottenham Hotspur winger Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.
The 34-year-old winger was an important first-team player for Tottenham last season and his versatility turned him into an indispensable asset for former manager Antonio Conte. The Croatian international joined the north London club on a free transfer last summer and he has a contract with them until the summer of 2024.
Postecoglou has now revealed to Football London that the player has a future at the Premier League club and he is unlikely to move on this summer. He also heaped praise on the 34-year-old for his professionalism and quality throughout the years.
“He’s been playing, and playing very well.
“I’ve followed his career for a long time, he’s an absolute professional, the way he looks after himself, and he’s had a really strong pre-season, in games and training.
“So he does have a future with me and the club.”
It will be interesting to see if the Croatian decides to push for a move in the next few days. He was linked with a return to his former club Inter Milan recently.
Former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte played a key role in convincing the Croatian to join the club and there were rumours that percentage would move on following the Italian’s departure.
If Postecoglou manages to keep him at the club for another season, it could prove to be a wise move.
The £180,000 a week winger is versatile enough to operate as a full-back as well and he could be a handy option to have.
The 34-year-old also has the experience and mentality to be one of the leaders of the Tottenham dressing room and he could have a major impact on and off the pitch.
Tottenham are unlikely to get a substantial amount of money for him if they sell him this summer and therefore it makes sense for them to hold down to him and let him move on when his contract expires.
