Harry Maguire’s destiny could be finalised ‘in the next two or three weeks’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is one of the several center-backs linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports from last month suggested that Tottenham had emerged as a possible destination for the 30-year-old.

And according to a report from Football Transfers, Manchester United are keen to offload Maguire and would even consider a reduced price of £40 million for the player.

Fabrizio Romano, a well-known football journalist, has now stated that the future of the Tottenham-linked defender could be resolved within the next two or three weeks.

Romano mentioned that West Ham had attempted to secure a loan deal for Maguire, but Manchester United is not interested in such an arrangement.

The situation now seems to be a strategic game, and clarity on Maguire’s future could be attained in the coming weeks.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said:

“West Ham tried a loan deal, but for Man United it makes no sense to accept a loan deal, so it’s also a kind of strategy game I think now. This is something that could be clarified in the next two or three weeks.”

Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 for a record fee of £80 million, making him the most expensive defender in the world at that time.

However, his tenure at the club has been marked by disappointment, with the Englishman failing to meet the expectations that came with his high price tag.

Under manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire has fallen down the pecking order, even losing the captaincy earlier this month to Bruno Fernandes.

His lack of consistent form and performance issues have fueled speculation about a potential move away from Manchester United, with Tottenham Hotspur being among the clubs interested in the experienced defender.
