Harry Kane Penalty: Video Analysis

By The Boy -

The winning goal, however, there has been much made by some that this was one of Harry’s weakest spot kicks to date. I agree it was comparatively under hit and side footed, however it did the trick, caused a second ball and ultimately went in.

In fairness to the England captain, against one of the nest goalkeepers in Europe, he may have decided to mix it up a little. But in future, I would stick with the strategy of blasting the ball as far out of his opponent’s reach as humanly possible.

Sanchos finally going to manure now so we’ll be seeing more of him… Jordon I would use sparingly even when fit… Grealish starts for me, our most naturally gifted player… Sterling is an athletic specimen, but inconsistent footballer. Passing is poor, shooting is terrible. He’s underproductive with the ball…. I can’t stand diving mate, I’ll hit the deck if someone kicks my legs out or crashes me to the floor, but never shot down at the slightest touch. Too busy going for the ball to score, rather than looking for a way to buy a foul. He was already on his way down and his leg was brushed. Of course I’m happy we’re in the final, but feel for the danes going out like that, there was also the lazerpen in Kaspers eye when the penalty was taken.

Aye, they were in the championship then, I hadn’t seen enough of him, remember a couple Villa fans coming on here to tell us he was the real deal.

I can remember when tottenham fans weren’t rating jack saying levy was shopping in the bargain basement. About the same time people were cussing me for saying I’d swap eriksen for zaha. Spurs fans ay

I’d play Marcus Edwards. He’s better than Sancho and Sancho knows it. 🌚 if jack and Jordan had started maybe we wouldn’t be in the final. Gareth playing sterling is totally justified. Well played gareth. Buying free kicks isn’t cheating.

Grealish gets floored more than anyone in the prem, and they’re not dives.

Ha ha hahaha… I love you my man, the morale officer in these parts… But Sterling I do not. Diving is cheating for me and he’s notorious for it. I would rather Grealish or Sancho were starting, better players.

It’s become the norm to do it, that is a big issue of the game. Instead of slotting in from 3 yards players revert to underhand tactics. This will only worsen unless VAR changes. The Clear and Obvious rule has to change to the one that will override a referee when needed. I didn’t think Sterling’s was a pen, but the Kane tackle was. Two wrong decisions shouldn’t be backed by the VAR just so the referee’s integrity in not undermined.

Does moaning about Spurs players make people “not spurs fans” if so then a big chunk of this readership are in the wrong place!

He’s not the only one , it’s just how players are these days, they have become so clever at impersonating a foul.

Sterling’s role was a massive part of our results, if you weren’t so blinkered you’d see that. Involved in everything in one way or another, unsettling defences. Jeez man you can’t criticise a player who has played such a massive part of such a successful tournament where we’ve scored what is it 10 goals for just 1 against, that’s mental. Ok I’d of liked to have seen more of Grealish too but you don’t change a winning starting 11. Do you and a few others here have a personal vendetta against him or something? Was it because he allegedly turned down Spurs in a swap deal for Kane? TBH I’m baffled by some of the people on here in relation to this tournament. At least the Southgate moaners have at least shut up.

He’s been busy and involved throughout. Always up for it and always willing to have a go, either scoring or creating chances and openings.

It was a soft penalty decision but he had one denied earlier which was a bad decision and he should have been awarded a penalty then. See how quickly the Italians will go to ground on Sunday given the chance

In total agreement. He was poor last night after doing well v Ukraine. Kane’s brilliant pass to Saka and the resulting cross were largely ignored because Sterling put pressure on Kjaer! Absolute rubbish, the cross caused the OG. He reverted to the group games of running into blind alleys and getting tackled. He hasn’t learnt when to release the ball. He frustrates the life out of me when he tries to beat one extra man. He even took the free kick in the first half over Mount. When did Sterling become a free kick taker? As for the miss in the 6 yard box, deary me. Sterling is a good player, but the Italians will rinse him unless he does the basics well.

England relying on Russian linesman and Dutch ref.

Why didnt the ref revue on screen. Sterling ‘ I thought I felt a touch on my leg so went down’. Only in 2021 do the English think it is OK to cheat. What a sad country we have become.

About history being made and a fantastic team performance – plenty. About Sterling being man of the match, or even player of the tournament… nope.

The two views are not mutually exclusive.

Had the very same conversation with my son before the match.
He doesn’t know when to release the ball, runs into too many ‘blind alleys,’ shooting is back to being average, etc BUT he is on a scoring streak for England – 15 goals in last 21 matches (only 17 in 67 total though).

Very lucky boy, weak and too close to the keeper, thank god it wasn’t a shoot out! Hopefully he has got it out of his system now hehehe.

On a different note, I still don’t see why the pundits are raving about Sterling. Yes he’s busy when he turns and runs at defenders but what comes of it – blasted one at Schmeichel that he should have scored, another couple sent into row Z, plus failing to slip in Foden in miles of space in extra time to wrap it up leaps to mind, but there were plenty of others.

I’m not saying Southgate should drop him, I’m just saying for me, he’s bang average and more than a little frustrating. Like a slightly better version of Lamela!
