Harry Kane factor could cost Tottenham yet another target

By Bruce Grove -

One player that needs help with his responsibilities at Tottenham is Harry Kane, yet the Englishman seems to be his own hindrance to getting help.

The striker is one of the best in the world and he has made himself an indispensable member of the Tottenham first team.

However, when he has been unavailable to the team as he was for a large part of last season, the Lilywhites suffered.

Jose Mourinho’s side faces a tough run of games this season and fixtures might be more than 50 if they go far in the cup competitions.

The Portuguese manager has identified the need to sign a backup striker for Harry Kane.

Several strikers have been linked with a move to Spurs this summer and one of them is Callum Wilson, but Alan Hutton believes that the striker may turn down a move to Spurs and join a team where he will be guaranteed to play more regularly.

When asked by Football Insider if Wilson could snub Spurs due to a lack of minutes, Hutton said: “Yeah, of course, he could, exactly. This is a guy at Bournemouth who plays week in, week out when he’s fit over the course of his time there.

“To change that to be a squad player, it’s difficult, even though you’re at a big club with a great training ground, great manager, great squad, it’s got the whole works but at the end of the day you want to be playing on the Saturday, you want to be on that team sheet.

“If you’re not, you’re unhappy so it’s whether he’s willing to sacrifice the game time to be at a good club.

“I think if he’s got other options where he’s going to be the main man, he would probably take that over joining Spurs.”

There is a pattern developing with players being linked with Spurs when it comes to being a back up to Kane, especially with seasoned pros. I can see the club being forced to bring in either an aged player past his best looking for one last payday or an untried youngster.

Either way, it does not really solve the problem of a reliable back up to Kane.

Its hard to believe we still haven’t signed a striker. So apparently there is noone good enough to partner Kane. Anyone good enough young or old won’t get enough minutes.. Codswallop… The ropey league is gruelling, we start off with 9 games in just 20 days.. An average player and frequent serious knee injuries, I would have thought Wilson would relish at the chance to play alongside Kane, and to play instead of him when needed… We should be aiming for higher quality…… I think what comes into account far more likely is that any good player with ambition wouldn’t want to sign for spurs due to poor wages and no winning trophies…

He gets a lot “off. Maybe Wilson is the wiser choice. I see something in quaison.

Kane might enjoy being yanked off regularly!

Why not play with two forwards with Harry as the number 10? He would still score a ton of goals from there. And, if injured, we have plenty who can play the 10 role. Dele, Lo Celso, even Lamela. Then, you just need to bring in a centre forward with no restrictions/excuses placed upon that by a suggestion that was planted in Spurs fans minds by the Levy PR machine in the first place. With ENIC there have always been excuses for not spending money…

Given the timetable for the upcoming season, it is absolutely obvious that a back up striker will get plenty of minutes. There are simply no weeks of rest so squads are going to have to be rotated. A sensible manager will also tell Kane that he will regularly be yanked off after 60-65 minutes to keep him fresh, so make sure he has scored a hatrick before half time….

If he has any ambition, he’ll wait until a better offer comes as I am sure it will.

I’ve been shouting out about Ollie Watkins for a while now, and I know that doesn’t mean a hill of beans to Levy & Co, but if you want someone who will grow into the role and be prepared to do the hard work, its him.

I looked up some Quaison footage last night and it was made up of more near misses than actual goals, not convinced, another gamble.

Another relegation fight for Villa or worse if Grealish leaves.

This is why I have said before that a young hungry striker, willing to learn from Kane would be the best option.Someone from the Championship,Watkins for example, would know he’s not going to usurp Kane, but would still get games as we will possibly have 50-60 matches next season.
Plus i think that Jose will insist on Kane sitting out certain games to help prevent the recurrence of any injury.

It looks like Villa have made their move for him already.

I’m at a loss why Parrot wasn’t kept on. Yeah, it’s good for his development, and he’s only young, but a whole season loan, when a till Xmas one would give a good indication of what he can do, would be the most sensible. Suggests that we have a replacement already, but the closer to the start of the season it gets, the quicker the prices will jump up. It’s ludicrous. We are not going to afford Dybala,

Of course no striker wants to be a bit-part player. Strikers want to score goals, lots of them.
You see, for a number of years now it’s been “backup for Harry Kane” this, “backup for Harry Kane” that. You’re never going to pick up a top level striker with that marketing!
Someone commented the other day about having a ‘small club’ mentality, and it’s exactly that.
The Man City’s and Real Madrids and – dare I say it – Man Uniteds of this world, clubs with aspirations of glory, with winning ambition, would be scouring Europe’s elite for a striker who can provide competition for Kane, who can challenge him. Not fannying around the lower leagues looking for some ‘prospect’ to play an odd cup match.

No other club has this problem, so this situation has to change , it’s ridiculous. With all those games it’s obvious the new striker will get his fair share, and that is how we convince him, whoever that is.

Go and get Olie Watkins before someone else does,he would know his place and can learn from the best.

We don’t need Wilson. We don’t need Wilson. He’s crap
We don’t need Wilson. We don’t need Wilson. He’s crap
We don’t need Wilson. We don’t need Wilson. He’s crap
We don’t need Wilson. We don’t need Wilson. He’s crap

That should be clear by now
