Glenn Hoddle blasts Tottenham duo saying they only pass square and backwards

By Mehdi Gokal -

Glenn Hoddle has heaped praised at the midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr and how it is a big upgrade to Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Yves Bissouma instantly looked like a completely new player under Ange Postecoglou compared to his struggling form last season under Antonio Conte.

He has been one of the best players at Tottenham this season and is certainly one of the first names in the starting XI.

He is always looking for that forward pass which makes him an invaluable player in the midfield.

And Hoddle admits that that has been one of his strongest points compared to the duo of Skipp and Hojbjerg who preferred to play sidepasses and back passes a lot more than forward passes.

He told the Premier League Production:

“Bissouma plays and looks forward. He is a good player, this boy. He is playing like he did at Brighton.

“He didn’t get on with Conte or whatever. He didn’t get the best out of him. But he can play forward.

“Whereas I felt that Skipp and Hojbjerg last year looked square and backwards too many times. If you have got a ten in there (Maddison), then you have to feed him.”

Tottenham will however be without Yves Bissouma in the next game against Fulham after he was sent off against Luton.

It will be the first real test for Ange without his star midfielder.

It is interesting to see who replaces him, Hojbjerg or Skipp but regardless, on paper it should be another game to win for Tottenham.
