Giroud Reveals All: Unsurprisingly Spurs Weren’t His First Choice

By Joe Fish -

Olivier Giroud has revealed that he would have chosen to go to Inter Milan over Tottenham if he was granted a move away from Chelsea in January.

The 33-year-old was one of several strikers, under the target man sub-category, that Spurs looked at to cover for Harry Kane in the New Year.

In an exclusive interview with Telefoot, Giroud has admitted that he was close to leaving Chelsea but would have preferred to move to Inter instead.

“Everyone knows that the sporting project of Inter was the most interesting for me,” Giroud told Telefoot.

Lazio and Tottenham also looked for me. At one point, it was a question of where I wanted to go to play. I spoke to [Antonio] Conte on the phone.”

In the end, Chelsea refused to sell him as they couldn’t find a replacement, and Giroud would, of course, go on to score against Spurs on his first Premier League start for six months in our 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Had the Frenchman had the chance to leave and gone to Inter, we couldn’t have taken that snub personally with his Chelsea and Arsenal connections.

Inter aren’t a bigger pull in the transfer market than we are – look at some has-beens they have gone for lately – Ashley Young and Victor Moses. Giroud would have fitted right in.

Giroud is too old and never has been good enough judging from the stats.

Listening to latest health reports any return to normality looks a long way off. They’ll review things in three weeks, probably can forget any restart in April or May.
