“Get it done” “Beautiful ball in” Spurs’ move for £35M target may have just received a timely boost

By The Boy -

Reddit sub forums can be a source of inadvertent entertainment, as well as a politically correct safe space, but that’s enough of the Tottenham sub. The Southampton sub looks at first glance to be packed with genuine Southampton fans, and ones that are warming to Kyle Walker-Peters.

Kyle Walker-Peters time on loan with the Saints looked to have been a bit of a non-event. With just a handful of appearances for the south coast club under his belt, KWP wasn’t turning heads. Back in February we covered the boy being berated as “ordinary” and a “liability” by some fans.

Football opinions are fast pace, a player only needs to ‘turn it on’ for a few moments in a game and suddenly he can be back in everyone’s hearts again.

Spurs’ 22-year-old may well have been suffering from not being given enough game time – to make much of an impact at Spurs or Southampton. These fans were pretty happy with what they saw from KWP against Manchester City last night.

Kyle had a solid game.

I think we can agree that Tanganga’s injury has given Aurier a free run, which has killed us. In hindsight we needed KWP but he wasn’t guaranteed games with us. Fair play to him for taking his chance, but in the present climate we have to keep him, unless we buy someone. It would be an interesting tactic for Southampton to bench him, but we need to get good value if we do sell. £20m minimum for me.

The market is set to be very difficult for everyone I think. If we have a player on our books already in a problem position it may make sense to keep him. The problem for Southampton is that if he carries on playing this well, his value will just go up and make him less affordable for them. They could leave him on the bench just to stop his value and exposure increasing.

Poch just let KWP hang around the club too long without loaning him out. Look at Mason Mount, Cantwell at Norwich, infact most young lads at clubs, if they are not good enough for the First XI they go out on loan. KWP should have 100 games under his belt by now, that’s how players develop, by playing. KWP does need to get in the gym though, he looks like plywood.

If we were buying him we would have to pay £30m, but if we sell to Southampton they will pay £10m!

He did have a very good game, his positioning was excellent and he put in some great blocks. However I do recall him losing the ball to De Bruyne after being outmuscled, there was among Spurs fans about being a little lightweight to cut it at this level. He could have a future yet at Spurs.

Will we just keep him then? If he has a great season for Southampton next season he’ll be rated at £30m

I told you the boy could play. He’s another one that’ll come good at 23. 23 is the magic number, I’m tell you.
