Gedson Fernandes’ Dribbling Delights plus analysis

By The Boy -
Fernandes’ heat map versus Ipswich Town

On Saturday we witnessed Gedson’s first full 90 minutes in a Spurs shirt since joining us from Benfica. As an attacking right-wing-back, it was a spirited performance, from the 21-year-old.

With just 8 misplaced passes, the Portuguese hit a successful passing accuracy of 89% which is decent, even against what was a pretty insipid Ipswich.

As far as being able to effectively cross the ball, Gedson is no upgrade on Serge Aurier. We saw four attempts and only one got through. Against this class of opposition, one would expect better.

A high point was Gedson’s dribbling ability, which saw 6 successful runs from an attempted 8.

Gedson showed promise this weekend, no two ways about it, however there is a world of difference between Ipswich Town and virtually any Premier League side.

The boy is on loan, and we shall see what if any future there is in store under the watchful eye of José.

He looked better than Serge in that role from what I saw (not hard! 😂) I’ve not been sure about this boy since he came in but he’s athletic and dribbles very well as you say. If that’s the formation he looked confident there, although it was a League One side.

A couple of step overs and no end product is hardly what I would class as ‘delights’. This boy is nowhere near good enough, send him back, otherwise face several years of wage thievery!

Be interested to see if you have Clarke’s stats as I think he crossed the ball more in his short spell?
