Back Page News In Spain: Poch For £66M rated diamond

By Joe Fish -

Mauricio Pochettino would like Tottenham Hotspur to pursue a January deal for Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena, according to the back page of today’s Mundo Deportivo.

The Sun linked Spurs to Alena back in 2017, before he signed a new contract at the Camp Nou which includes a £66m release clause.

However, the Masia academy graduate has only made 21 first-team appearances since then so may be available for much less than that.

The report in Mundo Deportivo claims that Pochettino is aware of Alena’s frustration with his lack of opportunities and feels that he can use that to tempt the 21-year-old into a move to North London.

Spurs have put Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama up for sale in January, according to The Times, so might need midfield reinforcements despite Pochettino’s bluff that the club will not be active in the next transfer window.

Left-footed Alena would be well-suited to the diamond formation that Pochettino has preferred this season, although summer signing Giovani Lo Celso was arguably recruited with the same role in mind.

We weren’t great, they were crap. However, Our movement with and without the ball was far better. Bit like Palace first half.

I will say this. Aurier isn’t a very good player. You can see the mistakes in him every time he plays the ball or attempts to defend. Sissoko, yes he’s improved but he’s too slow and laboured. Plays the ball backwards way too much. I’d prefer to see N’Dombele and Dier as the two CM. Foyth at RB

WE put them to the sword and could easily have had 8…so we did what Liverpool or City would have done – but against a top team, those 2 can get results, we cant even beat Watford.

Lewis? Levy? You crack on lads, fill ya boots cos these flumps deserve their money to be taken off em. Listening last night to these fans calling in was embarrassing, when you’ve got Cundy laughing at you you know something’s wrong, and I don’t blame him. Red Star were not only atroachess, they didn’t even come to get a result and you had people ringing in still using terms like “3 match blip” 😵?? and declaring everything back on track for top 4 and to go deep in this competition?!
3match blip??! Try 9 months and longer….one guy said the match showed we are able to match City and Liverpool?! No joke, there’s a reason why these people are called cultists. It dawned on me a large percentage are 30 or less and have only ever known an ENIC fc. The spin, expectation management and mind minipulation has rendered them incapable of perhaps even feeding themselves. Truly incredible.
An awful side came to a scarcely filled NFL/event arena and rolled over. This is not the second coming. I used to be proud to be in that number. No more.
