Former World Cup winner approves of Tottenham Hotspur’s addition of Cristian Romero

By Eddie Razo -

Heading into the 2021 summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to improve its backline. However, the north London-based club eyed several central defenders with the capabilities of anchoring their backline.

Eventually, Tottenham landed Cristian Romero from Atalanta BC, and it’s a move that former Brazil national team captain and FIFA World Cup winner Cafu approves.

In an interview with Omnicom Group (via Mirror), Romero caught the attention of the ex-player during the Copa America this summer.

“There are several young players who deserve to be highlighted,” Cafu said. “Also the Colombian Luis Diaz, MVP of the tournament, and Cristian Romero, from Argentina, who had a very good game in the final.”

There are high expectations for Romero and Emerson Royal this season as both came in to help revamp the Tottenham backline. However, Romero might not be in the club’s good graces at the moment since he departed for Argentina to compete with his national team during the World Cup Qualifiers.

Nonetheless, if Tottenham wants to return to the UEFA Champions League and win some silverware, in that case, Romero will play a significant part as he’s likely in charge of being the voice for their defense.
