Pedro Porro has spoken publicly about his decision to sign a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, saying he felt well looked after by the club during the process.
The Spain international extended his deal until 2030, committing his peak years to Spurs after the club narrowly avoided relegation last season. Porro had been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester City earlier in the summer, which made securing his signature one of the more consequential pieces of business in what has been a busy window.

Porro: ‘I Felt Very Supported by Tottenham’
Speaking to ElDesmarque, the 26-year-old was measured but clear about where his head is at – both on the contract and on more pressing matters in the short term.
“Right now, I’m only focused on the World Cup. I’m very happy about the renewal. It was a very important moment in my career, and I honestly felt very supported by Tottenham, which says a lot about them.” – Pedro Porro, said to ElDesmarque
There is something worth noting in that phrasing. Not ‘I want to win trophies here’ or ‘this is the right project for me’ – though both may be true – but that the club made him feel supported. After years of Spurs losing players who felt undervalued or mismanaged, a right-back publicly crediting the institution for how they handled his situation is not nothing.
What It Means for De Zerbi’s Rebuild
Porro’s renewal sits at the heart of De Zerbi’s broader effort to rebuild the squad after last season’s near-miss. Tottenham have spent £237m on six new additions this summer, but retaining an established, attack-minded full-back who understands the system is arguably more valuable than any of those arrivals in isolation.

With Spain still in the World Cup – Porro faces France in the semifinal – there is a reasonable chance a Spurs player ends the tournament as a world champion. Three of the four semifinalists feature Tottenham players: Porro himself for Spain, Djed Spence for England, and Cristian Romero and new signing Marcos Senesi for Argentina.
The contract extension closes the door on the Real Madrid and City speculation for now. Whether Spurs can build something around Porro and the rest of De Zerbi’s arrivals that actually justifies his long-term commitment is the question that matters more.
