Former Tottenham player valued at £53.4m is now wanted by Barcelona

By Saikat -

Former Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has improved immensely since his departure from the north London club and the Argentine international is now a target for Spanish giants Barcelona.

According to a report from the Spanish publication Sport, the 25-year-old defender is in the crosshairs of the Catalan giants after impressing with his performances for Villareal.

The Spanish club signed him for a fee of around £13m and he helped them win the Europa League in his first season at the club. The 25-year-old World Cup winner is clearly a talented defender with a big future ahead of him and Barcelona could use someone like him at the back.

The defender reportedly has a £53.4 million release clause in his contract and it remains to be seen whether Barcelona are prepared to pay that much money for him. If Villarreal manage to recoup in excess of £50m for him, it would represent an excellent bit of business for them.

As for Tottenham, they will probably be regretting the decision to let the player leave so soon. Foyth was always a talented player and taught him are in desperate need of someone like him right now.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet and Eric Dier have been largely underwhelming this season and Tottenham need to bring in a quality partner for Cristian Romero. Pairing him with his compatriot Foyth could have given Tottenham a reliable defensive partnership for years to come.
