Former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier could remain in the Premier League

By Eddie Razo -

This week, Tottenham Hotspur added Emerson Royal from FC Barcelona for €25-million resulting in Serge Aurier becoming an expendable player for the north London-based club.

Aurier had various clubs expressing interest, but no deal ever occurred. With one year left on his contract, Tottenham and the 28-year-old decided to terminate the deal, allowing him to become a free agent.

Now the right-back has the opportunity to pick his next club, and it doesn’t seem as though he’ll be going far away. Aurier will reportedly want to remain in London.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Aurier has been offered to Premier League rival Arsenal FC. Konur adds that it’s Mikel Arteta’s decision that Arsenal can begin talks with the former Tottenham defender.

This rumor doesn’t sound far-fetched considering that Aurier would not have to relocate and remains in the Premier League, so there’s no adjustment to a new league as he searches for a new club.

Media generated ‘clickbait’! Firstly there is nothing from Serge to say that he would remotely consider Arsenal. As he was not interested in extending his contract with us, why would he consider an inferior team, with even less to offer him, where he manifestly would just be a back-up? In addition to which the Arse just signed Tomiyasu and had to offload Bellerin in order to balance the right side of their defence. It would be entirely illogical therefore for them to sign Aurier.
