Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, but the French attacker has not been able to live up to expectations.
Tottenham have an option to sign him permanently in the summer, but former goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that the attacker will move on at the end of the season.
The 19-year-old is highly rated across Europe, but he has failed to establish himself as an important player for the North London club, and Robinson claims that Tottenham are unlikely to keep him. A move away from the London club could be ideal for the player as well. He needs a fresh start.
Tel should look to join a club with a clear plan for his development. Robinson believes that he has been used in an unnatural position this season, and he should have played in the wide areas. It will be interesting to see if the young attacker can find a suitable destination for himself.
Robinson said to Football Insider: “He’s probably better off playing out wide, isn’t he, rather than down the middle. He’s played down the middle, but he’s played in a side that’s struggling.
“There is a draw there, there is an appeal for the managers, but players like Mathys Tel – that was never the right fit in January for me.
“He’s not pulled up any trees since he’s come in, and there’s absolutely no surprise that he’s going back to his parent club.”
Spurs unlikely to pay up for Mathys Tel

Tottenham will have to pay £45 million in order to make the move permanent in the summer, and the player has done nothing to justify the pricetag. He will likely return to his parent club in the summer.
Meanwhile, Tottenham should look to bring in a quality attacking option who can operate anywhere across the front three. They have been linked with multiple attackers in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see who they end up signing.
