Former Spurs playmaker wants his old club to pursue Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to strengthen their forward group, and after striking out on Adama Traore and Luis Diaz, Spurs are reportedly set to land Dejan Kulusevski.

However, former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has advised the north London club to move for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech in the final few days of the January transfer window.

“I’ve been saying that for some time now, but I believe Ziyech is the type of player who could make a big impact in the current Spurs team,” van der Vaart said to The Times

“With a playmaker like him, chances are things will start to go much better. Then Son doesn’t have to go deep to collect the ball, and Kane can just remain up front as a striker as well because they miss someone who can feed them those balls. Now they have to work too hard.”

Ziyech has made 24 total appearances this season for Chelsea, scoring six goals and four assists for The Blues. The 28-year-old is under contract until 2025, but the Premier League rival could be open to letting the Morroco international depart.

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is linked to a move to Chelsea, but to make room for the France international, they might want to sell some players, including Ziyech.

Should The Blues make the winger available, then there’s no doubt van der Vaart will want to see his former club do everything in their power to land Ziyech.

I won’t. I’ve already said my transfer strategy would be to immediately sack the entire scouting department and hire a team of detectives to uncover whom Southampton, Leicester, Norwich, Ajax, Dortmund, Leipzig and Monaco are targeting then gazump their bids at the last minute by a few quid.

Tony Robinson. Levy is a transfer Baldrick.

You are going to look pretty silly when Ollie Tanner writes a letter about how he was flattered by a club like Spurs trying to sign him.

Don’t tell Levy you found the special sauce recipe.

I think Levy is scared. He gets most big fee signings wrong. He can’t afford another Ndombele. Beneath that cold, aloof exterior hides a petrified little boy, paralyzed in his decision making

There’s always option 6. Sign anyone who’s name starts with N’. Literally anyone…

Except for that one calamitous window we always seem to sign at least some warm body to avert the uprising.

So as near as I can tell our transfer strategy seems to be:

  1. Find teams desperate for cash or looking to unload someone nameworthy and proven regardless of position and try to poach them with a ridiculous lowball bid.
  2. When that fails, try to swap our deadwood for better players on midtable teams that are currently struggling.
  3. When that fails, go after young unproven players with incentivized bids that only benefit Spurs.
  4. When that fails sign a couple of mediocre/unproven players at above market prices that are a bad fit just to placate the revolting supporters.

If we go for a striker, I’d like to see Darwin Nunez

Most clubs won’t do business with Levy nowadays. But the toxic little twerp thinks it’s everybody else’s fault.

Ah that’s why he had a cracking game against us last week! To put himself in the shop window for us to buy him. What planet is VDV on suddenly?

The Telegraph.
January transfer latest: Spurs’ miserable window hits new low as non-league teenager snubs offer.
Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer window hit a new low after they were rejected by Ollie Tanner, a 19-year-old winger who plays for non-league Lewes FC.

Perhaps we should be renamed Tottenham Untouchables. The lowest caste in football, with, paradoxically, one of the highest profit levels.

If you had a choice between Liverpool and Spurs I’m pretty sure I know which one you would choose. There are many Levy blunders to be critical of (including all the ones in your post below) but missing out on Traore and Diaz I don’t think are two of them.

The players simply got better offers.

err no, we are buying Juv’s unwanted players…so this is the “game changer” Levy talked about…whilst throwing 25m on Gil and then having to loan him, 50m on N’Dom and having to loan him…10m on J Clark…..and having to loan him…Lo Celso, 40m…loan him….sell a decent back up goal keeper and loan in a crap one….I could go on…

Chelsea would rather pour hot sauce over their eyeballs than strengthen our squad. This should be common knowledge.

To be fair, Rafa had advocated this signing even before Chelsea got him. Him coming here from Chelsea to fix our problems is obviously never going to happen.
