Former Player Speaks Of “Things” Happening Behind The Scenes At Spurs

By The Boy -

Regular readers of Spurs’ fan forums will have seen a recurring question being asked ‘…just what is going on at Tottenham?’ as people outside the club that went from being a rising star, try to diagnose what inside the club has seen us slump so badly.

Kieran Trippier signed for Spurs on the back of a solid 4 season career at Burnley, in which time he scored 6 goals and provided 37 assists. This blog hailed ‘Tripps’ as an upgrade on fellow Englishman Kyle Walker. Walker was and still is prone to the most horrendous lapses in concentration.

Tripper eventually inherited the right back mantel thanks to Walker swerving the opportunity of a lifetime to play in a world-class stadium, in order to secure a pay rise and a Premier League winners’ medal at Manchester City.

The only problem was that Pochettino wanted Kieran to re-enact the wing-back routine that Walker and Rose had employed to – in part – make Spurs so exciting to watch and so tough to beat.

It didn’t work, because Trippier is fundamentally not a natural wing back. After Spurs games, the abuse Tripps accrued was frequently unthinking but mostly plain old nasty.

Last summer Trippier joined Atletico Madrid for £22million. This was the first time we heard the phrase, “behind the scenes”.

The 28-year-old told Sky Sports: “I think it was time for me to change and move on. I don’t necessarily mean that I needed to move on, but things happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, which I don’t really want to go into, but I needed to move on from that.”

In today’s Guardian Trippier is interviewed again, and the discontent about his closing stages at Spurs get another big mention.

Opinion: Clearly the boy wasn’t in a happy place at Tottenham, and Tripps’ continued dwelling on this specific aspect of his past raises more questions than it answers.

For a club on the cusp of a brave new world with an incessant message of “world-class” development, there are far too many negative indicators. Senior players quitting, or refusing to sign contract extensions simply does not fit the “brave new world” narrative. For a club with so much alleged positivity about it, why are Spurs listless, and sinking in the Premier League?

The question, ‘…just what is going on at Tottenham?’ doesn’t look as if it won’t be answered anytime soon, nor will the questioning subside, unless the football improves dramatically.

Tickets are available to the masses. Just dear, so not everyone can afford… I have run out of optimism, 20 years to come up with this great plan to drown the club in debt, much rather they had focused on running the footballing side of things, actually run the football club properly opposed to worrying about nfl stadiums restaurants and shopping malls.. Especially in a time with economic uncertainty…. Look at Bournemouths stadium only 13,000 odd and they are prem regulars currently more stable than us.. The only way is up mate. Going down is unthinkable. Look at blackburn and leeds some clubs dont recover. All the prem clubs have money now for tv rights so can afford decent players. Its all about good management and scouting and the right players in and out….. Sir alex said when he first took over manure that the HARDEST thing he had to do/learn straight away was to ALLOW all the staff from the coaches to scouts to tea lady to get on with their work. Trust everyone, not to interfere. Obviously if anyones not pulling their weight then they go…. My fear is levy micromanages everyone from scouts to transfers to negotiations to poch to the builders etc

Yep it’s a shame we moved into our new home with a stale team. We’ll get it right though (I knew it wouldn’t be a smooth transition and thought it would take a few seasons and many new players and most of this team wouldn’t be here for when the glory begins) Your mates can’t get tickets? Well I can. Community tickets (much more available than from the old place) coz I’m part of the community maybe that’s why I’m always full of optimism for Tottenham and her great club. Up the spuringey

A plush looking 5 star restaurant fit for kings… That serves up muck you wouldn’t give to your dog…. Restaurants and american football stadiums are worlds apart anyway. Or should be…. As long as enic are at the helm then i for one will be staying away.. I know other spurs white hart lane regulars who are either priced out of going, or are just too angry.. I stopped buying all tottenham merc over a year ago now… Give me back white hart lane, and some money in the coffers for poch any day.. Just look at what the bindippers did.. Just look at the state of us now… A billion debt and nfl football and the results is all we need to know. We can see how poor the quality of football is thanks to the wonder of television…. Tappa I do admire your everlasting optimism, i have a friend who is similar, but at this rate the giant superbowl will be empty, can imagine you being the last spectator having to watch on your own buddy 😆

The players could feel and see the owners were not building a football club but an American football stadium and regeneration project. Some fans saw it too, it was only a matter of time before it started to effect the squad. We are now witnessing the fall out.
