Forget the financial implications, Tottenham must go for this player if he is available

By Bruce Grove -

Going through the daily transfer gossip one name that keeps popping up is Aston Villa’s, Jack Grealish.

The 24-year-old nearly became a Tottenham player when Villa was stuck in the championship but obviously tight-fisted Daniel Levy just could not get the deal over the line. That lack of judgement by the chairman is starting to look more foolish every passing week.

Manchester United are the club seen as the frontrunners, however, they are not the only club touted as a possible destination for the playmaker.

Aston Villa could be relegated this season and if they are then it is a high probability that the Villians will have little choice but to cash in on their most valuable asset.

If the opportunity arises that Tottenham can make a move for Grealish then they surely must, he is almost single handily keeping Villa alive, he is a class act and would most likely be available at an affordable price simply because transfers will be a buyers market due to the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Obviously, Man Utd will have more money to spend but even they will only go so far under the current climate and with a good seven or more years ahead of him at the top level, Grealish would be an excellent acquisition and would be worth paying top dollar for.

Signing the likes of Willian or Ryan Fraser may be the cheap alternative but with that standard of player, you are going to confine yourself to mediocrity, signing Grealish provides an opportunity to step up a grade.

Daniel Levy has to decide if he wants to keep Tottenham among the elite clubs and his signings will determine his ambition. Signing Jack Grealish screams ambition, signing Willian does not.

Rose will get bought by newcastle i reckon. Still only 28 and he cost 1 million so profit guaranteed, cant see him coming back to run his contract down. I still rate him, wish he was with us. Hes better than davies for me.

This is the type of signing we need.. But last priced at 80 million.. I would sell ndomballboy and get grealish in. Grealish has the right mentality.

The only thing that concerns me about Grealish is what has always been the problem , and that’s his immaturity, he has grown up a bit lately but their is a lingering doubt about him for me, but that could be said about many young players.

I like Grealish a lot. Unfortunately, the boat has been missed here. The deal should have been done before Villa’s buyout last season. Levy was trying to be clever and it bit him on his backside. Grealish has shown he can do well in the Premier League and if Utd are in for him there is no point trying. They offer more wages and within one year of buying some good players are a better prospect than us. Kalvin Philips is well worth considering buying from Leeds as a defensive midfielder. He’s in the same situation as Grealish last year. Phillips might want to play for Leeds in the EPL. If he gets promoted and does well, he’ll cost more.

Levy has always bought the cheap alternative instead of the players that would really take us forward. If Captain Bungle had followed the Liverpool model and concentrated on the on field success first, and then on increasing the capacity, we would now be in a much better position. he wouldn’t pay the right price for Grealish before, and he won’t now. If the Newcastle takeover goes ahead, we will have a new rival who will not be afraid to spend. There will be no CL football for years at the new craft ale emporium.

Levy thought the financial implications were prohibitive when villa wanted 6m.

Cantwell & Aarons (£40m) better value than Grealish (£40m)

Willian for nothing, Jack Grealish, £25-40 million, work it out for yourself. We could have had him for buttons last year but the genius let him slip through his fingers. When Grealish becomes an established England International, we will have plenty of time to rue that fiasco. Nothing for Wanyama, a fire sale price for Eriksen, probably nothing for Danny Rose, somebody’s taking their eye off the ball.
