Football Insider claims Spurs are ‘monitoring’ Premier League star and could make a move in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a potential move for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

According to Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider) , Spurs are “monitoring” Ward-Prowse’s situation ahead of a possible transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Southampton are currently battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, as they sit 19th in the league table with just 21 points.

Unless their performance and results improve significantly over the next few matches, they could be facing a daunting challenge to remain in the league.

This could also make it challenging for the club to retain their star players, including the talented midfielder Ward-Prowse, should they get relegated.

Ward-Prowse is regarded as one of the best number 8s in the league and is known for his excellent set-piece skills.

He has scored an impressive 17 direct free-kicks in his Premier League career so far, which is only one goal behind the legendary David Beckham.

For Spurs, acquiring top-class midfield signings next season would be a great boost, as their current campaign has been hampered by a series of injuries in the midfield. As a result, youngsters Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr have been forced to step up to fill the gap in the team.

It is not just Tottenham that are keeping an eye on the talented midfielder, though. Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in signing Ward-Prowse.

As such, Spurs may face stiff competition from the Midlands club if they pursue a transfer for the midfielder.

If Southampton do get relegated, it could be challenging for them to keep hold of their star players, including Ward-Prowse. Whether Spurs will be able to acquire him or not, however, remains to be seen.
