Latest report claims Daniel Levy is ‘unwilling to meet’ midfielder’s asking price despite Ange Postecoglou giving the green light

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘unwilling to meet’ Leicester City’s asking price for James Maddison as per the latest report from Football Insider.

The Leicester City attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to Spurs since last summer with the club reportedly showing interest but finding Leicester’s asking price too high at the time as well.

With Leicester City facing the risk of losing Maddison on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires, they have one final opportunity to cash in on the player.

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has reportedly given the green light for the club to pursue Maddison, and talks were said to have been opened with Leicester last week.

However, the latest report suggests that the two clubs have reached a “stand-off” as Tottenham is unwilling to meet Leicester City’s £50 million asking price for the midfielder.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to pay such a high fee for a player who has just one year left on his contract.

Negotiations between the two clubs are described as “miles-apart” at the moment, and a move is not expected to happen in the near future.

Tottenham are hopeful that prolonging the saga could eventually lead to signing Maddison at a reduced fee.

They will be racing stiff competition from Newcastle however who are also strongly interested in Maddison and who also are not willing to pay more than £30m for him.

Newcastle have the advantage of offering him better wages as well as Champions League football.

Maddison has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the League and has consistently delivered every season. Even this season, despite Leicester’s relegation, Maddison stood out with 19 goal involvements in the league.

Tottenham fans will just hope that Daniel Levy’s negotiation tactics do not hinder their chances of securing the signing of James Maddison.
