First Dele, Now José Turns On Another Senior Player: None of which reflects well on Levy

By The Boy -

These words from Mourinho here via MailOnline will make uncomfortable reading for those predisposed with no patience for The Special One; those waiting for him to fail. The latest quotes from the gaffer on the subject of Gareth Bale are as cold as they are inarguable. Bale’s acquisition as I have discussed previously was – according to a source close to the club – was a move made by Daniel Levy. One can appreciate why, it must have felt irresistible, and few at the time might have foreseen what an extraordinarily drawn out business the COVI-19 lockdowns would be. José Mourinho has never spoken excitedly of Bale, in fact the José was quoted widely and by Goal.com as saying that 7-years on from when the Welshman left – meant Spurs weren’t signing the same man that left 7-years ago.

Dele Alli’s case has already been examined and closed, Mourinho spoke openly in the All or Nothing documentary about Alli’s poor training, both to Levy and to the boy’s face. This place had repeatedly argued that he simply didn’t pull his weight.

Now Levy has it before him, two players publicly branded as incapable of consistency in training.

The only alternate view is some weird invention, by those so blinded by contempt; which so very far removed from the teensiest hope of substantiation.

And to think some were confused when I was so hard on Pochettino for sitting there every week, telling us how happy he was.

Levy must act immediately, not just from a footballing perspective, but also from a financial one, this merry game of waiting and hoping is something I thought we had abandoned with the appointment of José.

the “real ” Gareth is around the corner…….his class is obvious even now in small packages . He will ignite very soon and the doubters will change their tune . Confidence is key ………

Hardly played in 2 years and injuries have made it slow. Hes finally getting back in the mix again now. No more injuries needed. Game time needed. Fingers and toes crossed.. I’m sure he’s not done yet.

31 isn’t old.. Ronaldo is 35 breaking records at Juve.. Vardy is still strong at 35.. Bales not done yet. He has to shake off these niggling injuries and get going.

Tranmere and the ropey league yes… He’s not good enough to do this against top opposition. The penny hasn’t dropped, he’s unable to… First half against Wycombe he got thrown about and bullied hence his dirty shirt.

The point is information and opinions for all.. Also you can add your own view.. Rather than ask a couple of simpleton questions.

Did we miss the part where Jose spoke to Bales to assure him his preferred position would be from the right side. Now, Dele is not the guy that is going go to the media, so that confrontation Jose was looking for has not happen. I never liked a manager taking the practice seesions or the locker room public when not asked. Bale has delivered and is a veteran and should be treated as such. Sitting him when he was ready to go while we played on our 18 yard box had affected his bedding into the team. I can remember at least 3 to 4 occasion Bales was ready to go, but defense was tactically required. He got injured and now am not sure what the noise is about.

Ndombele is there already & loving it it seems.
The rest of the team see it too.

That’s what fitness gives you, confidence to do what you wouldn’t dream of before.

Yes, take the two best forwards out of most teams and there will be a significant drop in quality. Vardy and Maddison at Leicester? That would be painful. Fernandes and Rashford at United too wouldn’t look too healthy for any significant length of time.

There are signs Ndombele is becoming equally influential.

Sadly Vini and to some extent Bergwijn haven’t set the league on fire – neither is quite lifting the burden on Son and Kane, at least not yet.

Why do you think Mane & Salah play every game, coz without them Liverpool look just as toothless, some would say the last how many games with all those draws they’ve looked just that.

How he played last night he needs to do in every Prem game going forward.

Jose was very happy with Winks’ performance last night.

Forward passes all night long, getting into forward positions, making things happen.
Surging runs forward all night.
This is exactly what we need to see him doing.

The misplaced passes I can live with after a performance like that.
But as I say, he needs to do that in Prem games.

…….the penny has dropped ….finally.

Good on you Winks

Totally agree.

Bake would appreciate the honesty & know if he wants another year he has to show it from now onwards.
…..which I think he will do.

Bet he’s Sh#@ scared of the Real bench next season
…….although Zizi will be gone by then.

But Real are watching your performances Bale.
So they all count if Spurs send you back.

I think he’ll improve playing more with the big boys.

He had 3 good chances before he scored that on another night would’ve gone in.
He’s getting there slowly & gradually.

You have to remember for the last 12months+ at Real he was treated like a No.2 Goalie.
It will take him time, but the most important thing that goal showed me is, he is willing.

Have to agree.

After watching him last night interweave with Son, Kane & Ndom I’m now coming round to the idea he needs to be played in big games with the main men to force him to show his best.
If he comes on for the 20 – 25 on Thurs he won’t want to embarrass himself.

He’s getting there at the business side of the season.

That goal was so important,
Jose was always gonna give him 90, but harsh Jose would’ve wanted to hook him at half-time if he hadn’t scored just before.

Bale could still be a good impact-sub for some big games. He’s the sort of player that could turn it on in a nerve-biting Final (like Lucas). Expensive wages, true. But worth keeping until the end of the season before re-evaluating.

Something a lot more. Okay he’s had injuries but he’s only 31 when he should be in his prime. Lewandovski is still banging in goals at 32.

I trust José to know who’s ready for game time. Gareth’s just not. It’s a shame, for him and for us, but it’s just not going to happen. It feels harsh to say it when he scored a crucial goal, but the wastage was shocking.
Without Kane and Sonny, the team is flat and toothless. Leave out both or either, and – to use a term employed frequently in a recent blog debate – dross.

He was shocking and absent in the first half and very poor end product, however he seemed a lot better in the second half. Another poor article from the media having another go at jose for very fair comments. We know Jose says it as it is which I find quite refreshing and he is simply challenging his players to respond, At least you know where you stand and I guarantee its nothing he hasnt said to the player himself. Every game this season due the nature of problems facing every club is turning each game into an fa cup match. Teams are dropping points like no other season so its going to be quite a close finish. If Bale had a run of games his overall play especially from a defensive perspective is going to cause major issues to an already struggling defence. Until he has shown he has the pace the fitness and the engine to get up and down the pitch he is a liability. Only place he could play in my opinion would be a number 10 where you are perhaps not relying on him to get back and defend and just using him for his creative flair. After all thats how deli played for the last few years lol

Apart from his lack of goal my biggest criticism of one paced Winks is that he is not direct enough plus he lacks vision for a defence splitting pass!

Not sure it’s entirely ‘match fitness’ now or just not really adapting to the team and the intensity of these games.

it seems a cliche he’d come back and swan about like he’s still playing in a team of galacticos not needing to go all in/do or die but…he does seem too disconnected and ‘low intensity’ up to this point

But the chap earns two to five times as much as the rest – its an awkward imbalance.

The balance sheet say he should start every big game he’s fit for.

He ran out of steam a little bit but he was very proactive and dare I say direct/full of running that first half.

Dunno, I seem to be a lone voice on this – well, me and the BT panel/commentator/whoever decides MOTM awards :/

The Bale of old or the less effective Bale of now? I think the latter. IMO Bale urgently needs an extended run out in the side?

Yes showing glimpses of his magic sadly the Bale of old has vanished.
Please don’t convince me otherwise as age catches up with everybody in the end. That said if all he does is score the winner in the Carabs Cup Final his loan deal will have been worthwhile just for that!!

He has no intensity at the moment of truth – prob the least influential attacking player those last 15 minutes.

That worries me.

It was however his best game so far even though it was only Wycombe. He created chances and got on the end of things. He’s going to be useful this season with all the games we have to play. Financially it was a no brainier with merchandise sales, sponsorship deals etc. but sadly some of that hasn’t come to fruition for obvious reasons. He has raised the profile of the club and the players love having him around. We need a huge squad and he is going to be a key part especially in the Europa. A minimum of 2 games per week from now on. Going to be tough but going to be interesting.

Shown tonight there is still enough in him to offer in the big games, and that includes goals, absolute madness to leave him out completely.

Also, I think the headline is a bit disingenuous, if I were Bale I don’t think I’d feel like Mourinho was turning on me with these comments, I’d think they are perfectly fair enough!

I’m sure Bale knows he has to earn his place, as much as the rest of them do.

I thought Bale looked decent tonight. Yes, the final quality was a bit disappointing, but generally he looked influential. Really, this is the kind of performance we wanted to see 3 months ago, with a view to him building on it.

If he can stay fit and get minutes I still think he will continue to get better and could yet deliver some key performances toward the business end of the season.

The problem is, neither of those things seems very likely to happen.

Tonight backs up Jose’s stance – Bale is still 100% not ready to start a Premier League game based on his performances so far.

Gotta earn his chance.
