Ferran Torres & Two Other La Liga Players To Target With Contracts Expiring [Opinion]

By Joe Fish -

You may already have seen a couple of instalments in the series of pieces that I’m writing about players whose contracts expire in 2021 that Tottenham could target for cut-price deals. Links to those are below.

We’ve done the Premier League and Serie A, so now onto La Liga, from where we’ve signed gems such as Federico Fazio and Giovani Dos Santos.

All contracts expire in June 2021 according to transfermarkt.com.

Ferran Torres

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s hot properties after a breakthrough season with Valencia. According to the Daily Mail, Torres has little interest in signing a new contract at the Mestalla so the Spanish club is likely to going to have to cash in on the winger while they can.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are among the clubs linked to him but with Jaden Sancho and Leroy Sane both possibly on the move this summer, Torres might be a spare piece that we can swoop for late on.

Riqui Puig

The Barcelona youngster turned down a move to Spurs last summer over fears about his playing time, according to Catalunya Radio. We were a big deal then, however briefly; Champions League finalists and what not but now we are a broken team and Puig, a year older, may think differently.

First-team opportunities at Barca are still few and far between for the Spaniard who has been highly thought of by the Camp Nou locals. A midfielder of his type may not be top of our list but we might regret not going for him again, especially if he turns into a player somewhere else.

Diego Costa

Hear me out for a second. We need a striker – and not just any striker – but one that fits Jose Mourinho’s style of play. Perhaps only Didier Drogba has been a better target man for the Portuguese coach than Costa was during his first season at Chelsea, and we could do with some of his nastiness.

The 31-year-old is used sparingly by Atletico Madrid these days so could be available for very little. He left England with unfinished business and I reckon Mourinho could get a tune out of him for a season or two.
