Never mind that Jose Mourinho has left Dele Alli behind in London as the rest of the boys flew out for Europa League football, I’d be more interested in Dele retweeting a post that showed a future Tottenham dream XI, that DIDN’T include him.
Clearly this is the 24-year-old’s digital version of hurling a water bottle of a boot on the floor. It’s rare to see such displays from professional sportsmen, normally they exchange benign messages to teammates. Dele might feel that he’s running out of options – and I believe he’d be right.
Mourinho is precisely what the doctor ordered, and after being publicly branded as ‘lazy’, as well as being dumped by Gareth Southgate, Alli would be right to think that he’d lose his Spurs’ starting place to Bale.
While Dele’s gone backwards, Spurs appear to be finally marching on!
Competition for places, less of the guaranteed starters because the bench was threadbare. If this doesn’t wake up the weak willed nothing will.
This is just one window, next seasons squad after another two windows should be even more interesting. If we can shift like this when the coffers are empty then when the blessed day arrives with fans back in the stadium and the money rolling in we might see some tasty football.
I referee adult and youth football and tbh I see better ball control at that level than I see from Alli.
Yes it was shocking, everything that came his way, with the sole exception of the shot on goal, bounced off him and to a defender. This is a worrying trend in recent times too, he looks like he’s got two left boots on.
If he can pull himself out of his sulk, then he can get back to doing what is capable of doing. However, he needs to re-learn basic ball control first. He first touch on Sunday was dreadful.
No judgment
The mighty SS Tottenham Hotspur is being changed from a cruise ship to a warship. About time to let the passengers off.
That wasn’t my intention, but it’s a sentiment I am starting to agree with.
Is that a polite way of saying he’s a bit of a d*ck?
Going back 50+ years – there was no twitter, facebook, Instagram or Tik Tok. Footballers got paid a pittance and the only way to make a name for yourself was on the pitch. Fast forward 50 years and footballers are overpaid celebrities (mostly but not all) whose obsession with their “brand” and what they can get out of the game overshadows anything of consequence they might do on the football pitch.
Someone had to get ruthless – Alli and Sessegnon, you think right here and now in a big game….both could let you down.
I think this is Jose saying that his main men, his best 15 etc – there can be no passengers in that squad within a squad. He’s assembling them.
No weak minds.
He’s always been a man-boy, but he delivered when it was needed. He’s not delivering now, so he’s just an appendage.
Poor Dele-diddums.
Are you lonesome tonight?
It’s because you were sh*te
And Mourinho was right
To leave you home tonight.
You can go back 50+ years & think about all the gifted players that didn’t realise their full, talented potential & Alli will be added to that list unless he totally focuses on his career & keeps all the glitzy, fake, partying, ‘showbiz’ stuff behind him, like all those before him didn’t.
He should take José’s words on the chin & prove to himself he isn’t going to be on the long, ‘if only’ list of players.
Well we know from previous history that Mourinho always falls out with 1 or 2 players wherever he works (a bit like Zidane), so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. In Mourinho’s defence Dele can be immature for his age. Perhaps having Hart and Bale in the squad will teach him some maturity, he needs to stop larking about and grow up a bit. Dele needs to concentrate less on his image and more on his football because I’m seeing a top Championship player only in many of his recent outings.
