Tottenham Hotspur are set to retain German attacker Timo Werner for another season, as advanced negotiations with RB Leipzig aim to extend his loan deal.
This news was broken by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano yesterday.
Romano reported that Spurs were in advanced talks with RB Leipzig to extend Werner’s loan until June 2025, maintaining the same conditions agreed upon in January.
The extension signals the club’s intent to keep Werner in North London for another season, adding experience to their attack.
With Werner’s loan extension now confirmed, questions arise about the Lilywhites’ summer transfer window strategy, particularly regarding the signing of another wide attacker.
Tottenham Still in the Market for Offensive Reinforcements
Fabrizio Romano addressed this on his YouTube channel, providing insights into Spurs’ plans.
He confirmed that despite Werner’s extended stay, the North London club will still pursue additional options for their offensive positions.
Specifically, with Bryan Gil expected to leave the club, Spurs are likely to target a new winger as his replacement.
Additionally, the club may look to sign a new striker, depending on their strategic decisions in the transfer market.
He said:
“Timo Werner will be Tottenham’s first signing, but, of course, guys, let me clarify that Tottenham are still looking at options in that position. Could be a winger with Bryan Gil expected to leave the club and also could be a new striker based on what Tottenham will decide to do. But there will be still movement in offensive positions for Tottenham.”
If Romano’s reports hold true, Werner’s extended loan deal will not deter Tottenham from bolstering their attack.
The club is expected to make at least two new signings in offensive positions, ensuring they remain competitive and well-equipped for the upcoming season.
