According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has held crunch talks with chairman Daniel Levy regarding his future at the club.
The experienced defender has been shunned by new manager Ange Postecoglou who has not been impressed by the Englishman. He does not seem to have the Englishman in his plans.
He is yet to feature for Spurs this season and was not even been named in the squad that played Fulham in the League Cup despite the manager making 9 changes.
He has previously been linked with a move to Fulham but reports claimed that the player would rather stay and fight for a place in the team.
The 29-year-old was even linked with a move to Bayern with claims that Kane had recommended him to the German giants.
However, the player ended up staying at Spurs. And with his contract expiring next summer, it is possible that he could leave on a free transfer next year.
The specifics of the meeting have not been disclosed, but it is described as a “frank conversation” with no indications of any disputes or fallouts.
It is reported that the meeting was called by Daniel Levy and likely revolved around Dier’s position at the club, his role in Postecoglou’s plans and ‘what the future might hold’.
With Spurs ending up selling Davinson Sanchez to Galatasaray and loaning out Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier is now perhaps the only senior centre-back available in face of an injury to Micky van de Ven or Cristian Romero.
However, one interesting development is the emergence of 18-year-old center-back Ashley Phillips, who joined Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers during the summer transfer window.
Reportedly, Postecoglou has been impressed by Phillips and intends to include him as a squad player, which could further impact Dier’s role within the team.
