Double Aurier Sloppiness Sets Up Chelsea Opener – Fantastic Willian Finish [Video]

By Joe Fish -

Just when you feel as if Serge Aurier is making progress…calamity strikes.

The Ivorian has put in some of his best Spurs performances in the early Jose Mourinho era, excelling in an advanced right-back role which focusses on his attacking strengths.

Which is a good job because he is still a defensive liability, and he showed that twice for Chelsea’s opening goal this afternoon.

Firstly, he could not sort his feet out quickly enough while backtracking and ended up heading an aimless long ball out for a corner.

He then fails to get out to Willian, instead lounging on the front post while the Brazilian cut into the penalty area and set up to shoot. By the time Aurier reached him, the damage was done, and Willian came up with a brilliant curling finish to punish the defender’s slackness.

Check out the video below to see the second example of said sloppiness.

This is why right-back is the top priority in the January transfer window.
