Tottenham Hotspur had the opportunity to leap over Manchester United, who stood in their way of a top-four finish. Spurs were heading into Old Trafford with two impressive Premier League fixture wins over Leeds United and Everton FC.

However, they couldn’t replicate those performances on Saturday night. The north London club chased the entire game and made it 2-2 following an own-goal from Harry Maguire. However, Cristiano Ronaldo would convert his hat-trick, dragging The Red Devils to the win.

Manager Antonio Conte spoke to the media at his news conference after the loss. He was asked about being patient with this team and project, considering there’s another hurdle for Spurs to finish in the top four.

“I think that every day I like to go to the training ground and to work with these players. I think I am doing a fantastic experience because I enjoy my time at Tottenham. For sure, a different situation if I have to compare to my past as past I fought to win the title, to win a trophy,” Conte said, per Football.London

“This situation is a big challenge, a new challenge, but the people see very well the commitment what I’m doing, what I’m putting into the training ground with my staff to try to deliver something important. As I always say, I have patience, and I like to work, like to work what we are doing, and at the same time, I want to be very clear as I don’t want to lose my ambition. This must be very clear to everybody. I repeat, I hope that we are in the same way.”

Tottenham will need a lot of help to see three clubs ahead of them falter to give them a chance to maybe squeak past them. Furthermore, they’ll have to find some consistency, which has been their kryptonite all season.

Why do the majority of Spurs fans think we’re a top 4 club? We largely only qualified for CL football due to shrewd scouting, the emergence of Kane & several much wealthier clubs going through transition &/ having a really bad season… the last 2 years has seen somewhat normal service resumed.

Even as an optimist I feel we had to win this one to really still believe top 4 was possible. Unless Man U and Arsenal start dropping silly points then thats us done.

From where we are now and the games we have I’d say 5th or 6th is looking likely, but 7th would be abject failure.
