Dier’s Penalty Howler For England Really Shouldn’t Spook Spurs Fans|video

I remember listening to Arsenal hero Ian Wright (please bear with me) as he was commentating on a football match when a player fluffed a penalty. Wright was quick to point out that this was actually a good thing, as it was essentially an unimportant match and that the player had ‘got it out of his system’.

Eric Dier is no dummy. We’ve seen him behave as a hot-head, but he’s not a dummy. We know this, because we watched him confront Dele Alli after yet another mindless bottle/shin-pad throwing episode.

Lukaku bought the foul. When Eric watches it back, he will realise what a naive tackle it was. And Spurs will only benefit from the wisdom aquired!

Thanks for putting this up H I missed the match.
On first view it just looks like a poor action and def. penalty.
After reading your commentary I watched it again and see that the Belgian player does indeed run into Dire to buy the penalty.
However it doesnt detract from my view that Dire is effing useless and if I was an opponent I would be running at him in the box/jumping a foot above him from a set piece.

It’s almost as if he’s played too long in midfield and he’s neither one of the other now. Looks like Jose is fond of him so he’s going to get a fair amount of chances in defence. In the center of a back three I think might be a good place to start.

We’ll never know, perhaps he thought he was turning into Danny Rose? 😂

I agree, otherwise he had a good game. Give the lad a chance. Lukaku can do that to anyone in any game, but he only looked like doing it the once.

Why did we sell Tripps? Surely he’d of been a good squad player for us.

TBF it was his only error in the entire game and Lukaku is a world class striker. Dier can be Dire for moments in games but i think we all tend to forget his good moments don’t we? Spurs have conceded far fewer goals than the other big teams with allegedly much better defenders…

He was half a yard behind & had to back himself to TRY to get the ball, can’t be too harsh on him for this one.

I wish I could share your optimism H! However, just for the record, Dier was at fault for the Calvert-Lewin goal against Everton, the Ings goal against Southampton, the penalty against Newcastle, the England penalty tonight, the penalty against Man Utd after the restart last season and those are just ‘off the top of my head’. He might be a great lad, but he is not even a top four EPL centre back, let alone an England CB and unfortunately, much as one might wish it was so, he doesn’t appear to learn and the rash challenges and lack of positional awareness keep occurring.

Lukaku with that momentum and leaning in – not easy tbh

The main striker for the team ranked 1st in the world rankings (yeah, I know…) – but still, Lukaku is a unique proposition in some ways, no one quite like him in the PL for a start.

Dier won’t be the last to get done by that.
