Did You Spot Spurs’ Bizarrely Most Involved Player Against Marine?

Gedson had a bizarre game. No Tottenham player saw more of the ball, the Benfica loanee had 117 touches, and a successful passing accuracy of 82%, which is pretty respectable for such a forward, at the same time, his misplaced passes mounted up 22 occasions where he lost the ball, which would ordinarily be enough to hang him. Which is the crazy part, because he was so involved, proportionately, Gedson was arguably Spurs’ key player.

Gedson made 4 out of 8 successful dribbles

…and this progressive run.

This was certainly the most active the 22-year-old has been in the Lilywhite and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. And now for the less good news, I think what we saw here was that the Premier League is just a little bit too much for the boy, and his talents at this stage would be better suited to a lower league. Last night will remain to Gedson’s credit, but Steve Hitchin, this is another on you.

I enjoyed the game, both clubs showed commendable spirit and attitude for the competition, with the FA Cup coming out as the winner.
I congratulate Marine in how they handled the game in every way, good luck to them.

Can’t knock his effort – he at least showed he wanted to be involved.

But I was surprised by his positional play – looked like he’d been told to “Go out there and run abaaaat”

He looked quite good when playing more centrally. Solid effort.

Honestly thought he was very poor – our worst player by a mile. Dont get me wrong, if he had played those stats, and that style against a PL side, he would have been a star, but against a team like Marine, he simply slowed our play, and gave the ball away. He also didnt track back, or move from centre circle very often.

I think this is a key example of how the stats can lie. He made a lot of short or sideways passes, he was hanging deep, in acres of space and added very little drive going forward. When he did try to play forward, he lost the ball either through poor dribblign or poor passing. Basically Marine didnt bother with him as all he was doing was playing the part to shift the ball sideways
