Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Napoli have approached Tottenham Hotspur regarding the potential signing of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

However, negotiations between the two clubs are currently at an early stage, and there is a discrepancy in their preferred deal structure.

He claims that the Serie A club are keen on signing him on loan with an option to buy but Tottenham are looking for a permanent deal or a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

This difference in terms has created a ‘distance’ between the two clubs during the initial stages of negotiations.

Napoli had signed Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele last season on loan with an option to sign him permanently, an option they opted against.

Lo Celso has struggled to secure a regular place in the Tottenham squad in recent years and has spent a significant amount of time on loan at Villarreal.

Tottenham are in the middle of a significant summer rebuild which has already seen them sign the likes of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski. They are also linked with a move for Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.

Barcelona are another club who have been strongly linked with a move for the Argentine, with reports suggesting Xavi Hernandez view him as a replacement for Sergio Busquets who earlier today joined Inter Miami.

The player himself is keen on a move away in search for regular playing time. It was previously reported by journalist Matt Law that the player has his heart set on leaving this summer.
