Brendan Rodgers has pledged his loyalty to Leicester City again despite their failure to make the Premier League’s top four.
The Northern Irishman is one of Tottenham’s targets to replace Jose Mourinho as their next manager.
Daniel Levy has always been a fan of Rodgers and wanted to make him the Tottenham boss in 2012.
Rodgers joined Liverpool and almost won the Premier League in the 2013/2014 season.
He then moved to Celtic, where he dominated the Scottish game before Leicester brought him back to England.
He has helped them to top-five finishes in the last two seasons and won the FA Cup in this campaign.
The Foxes were in the mix for a top-four finish until the last day of the season and needed to beat Tottenham at home to achieve that.
But Spurs came from behind to beat them 4-2 at the King Power Stadium and spoil their bid for a UCL place.
Spurs would have hoped that finishing outside the top four would make Rodgers consider leaving.
But he spoke after the game and insisted that failure to make the top four only gives him more motivation to stay and achieve more with Leicester.
‘There are no worries about myself,’ said Rodgers via Mail Sport.
‘I love it here at Leicester, even more so now that we’ve just missed out. It motivates me even more to be here and try to push the club to that top level.
‘We need to bring in players who have won something and competed at the top end with their teams.’
It’s been well documented that Dier cost us 15 points with his mistakes alone.
Fofana’s injury cost them the game, as they had to move Ndidi, who had been bossing the midfield, into the back line. That’s when we started to play a little better.
How about a Poch return?
That’s mainly down to the blazing form early in the season and Kane and Son’s goals.
Fifteen million quid will guarantee plenty of takers.
Take Kane out and we are not close to the top 4. Three PL teams made it to the Champs league 1/4 final. Two are in the final. I don’t think it’s the PL lacking in quality, we need to be looking closer to home.
If these are the only terms on offer who in their right mind would take the job? If Mason is still at the helm come August then you are probably right. Given how desperate Levy is to get himself out of the current crisis I would imagine any incoming manager will have conditions too-no?
All that does is reflect the general poor quality of the PL.
Even as bad as Spurs have been at times they are not actually that far off top four. I suppose that is some crumb of optimism.
Whoever Levy gets in ,regardless of much of the Kane money he is given,I think he will be told to turn round the fortunes of the existing players.
Then perhaps there will be money made available possibly in January or next summer. Therefore we are probably stuck with pretty much the same squad for next season.
God knows what state we will be in by then.
Wouldn’t disagree.
Interesting isn’t it – No Evans and lost Forfana early on – and they looked nervous at the back. Shows you what difference a solid back 4 can make. Seriously think we would have finished top 4 and won a cup this season with a better back line.
Has he got Sissoko and Winks though Eddie?
Rodgers would be mad to give up what he has at Leicester. We did actually play better in the second half, but I feel this was down to them losing Forfana after which they looked very nervous at the back.
When you consider he has Barnes and Justin to come back next season plus one or two other players they are chasing in the transfer window he will have a good squad to go forward next time.
What would he have with us?A disfunctional squad of players who are disinterested or not good enough.A huge rebuild faces the new man on a limited budget, because even Kane’s money won’t all be available.
