Dele Alli Made One Dramatic Improvement Against The Foxes Compared To His Villa Performance

By The Boy -

Dele Alli’s biggest of many shortfalls against Aston Villa last week was his inability to retain possession, and he managed to not only lose the ball 13 times, but on 7 of those occasions this happened in his own half.

Against Leicester City, the 25-year-old made a dramatic improvement. Losing the ball 9 times is better, but getter yet is that he only conceded possession once in his own half.

Total actions / successful versus Villa

Elsewhere, we were treated to a performance that was worthy of being substituted long before the 69th minute.

Total actions / successful

As we can see above, 50% of everything he did, ended in failure. Tielemans’ percentage was 67%. Mendy’s was 63% Wyscout [€].

Passing accuracy 75%

Passing accuracy was down from the Villa game from 81% to 75%, and he’s the kicker, Dele saw half as much of the ball against Leicester City. 24 passes yesterday, 53 against the Villa.

To think that one reporter recently called the boy undroppable and even the commentator on yesterday’s game was still cooing for no discernable reason…

He does however perform plenty of pirouettes in a game. 😉😉

Agree 100%….For me, the frustration yesterday was watching hin do fcuk all after losing the ball…No attempt to run and try and retrieve the ball again…..Jose was 200% correct in calling him a lazy cnut.

I agree he attacks with intent, but so often these situations come to nothing. If you’re lucky you will get a good performance from him one game in 10-15[Ajax].Otherwise he is a liability and we have enough of them already.

These days less forgiving terms are used and not unreasonably.

Just like the commentators constantly waxing lyrical over him.It must be something to do with Covid. How they can’t see how he has regressed is baffling.

Oh yes, and I could add to those mentioned.

He used to flatter to deceive when we had strong players around him who could press, retain and win back the ball. He luxuriated in the freedom that gave him to do the Hollywood stuff. But now he is found wanting, and unable or unwilling to contribute in other ways.

Daily Telegraph has an analysis of the 20 PL’s club’s seasons.
Relating to Tottenham, the writer has this to say about Dele:
“The main surprise of the season is why Mourinho froze out Dele Alli for so long. Under Mason, Dele has shown what a talented player he is and he will hope to have a big role under the next permanent manager.”
No evidence is provided to back up the assertion that he is a talented player. Probably because there isn’t any…

Agreed. And that’s been his game for the last 3 seasons. Insouciant, ineffective, inexcuseable and (sadly) In My Club

I love Lucas. But i can’t help but fear he’s morphing into a Brazilian Ronnie Rosenthal

You could swap out ‘Dele’ for ‘Winks’ or ‘Sissoko’ or ‘Doherty’ or ‘Aurier’. Or ‘Lamela’ or ‘Dier’ or….I’m bored now. You get the drift

Deli was poor throughout the game yesterday. Like a powder puff fairy in the middle losing possession, then flapping his arms as if it wasn’t his fault, and then worse just standing still and letting the opposition player take the ball forward without any attempt to regain the ball. He represents all that is wrong at this club. All top show and no substance

Fair point, but you do not do what he done over a three year period if you are not a very good player

But difficult to argue on recent form I agree

In the old days we would have called him a “Fanny Merchant” am I allowed to use that term today?

If you’re happy with mediocrity and constant underperformance that please continue to support this team because that’s what you’re getting.

if you want more success and better football then say so as whilst we cannot directly influence what Levy thinks or does, we can show our dissent at what is happening to our team and hopefully the message will get through. Much better than just accepting your fate.

Bale was a replacement for Bergwijn out wide right yesterday and Moura was a replacement for Dele in the middle – so I felt that was a good reason to compare.

“Once a quality player” is the operative phrase. If he can’t change with the managerial styles and adapt like Kane has then he is not someone we need.

For my money I think he peaked early and now we are seeing the real person. Someone who is not giving his best and repeating the same errors over and over again. If a new manager can get a tune out of him, great. If not, get rid. We need fighters and skills players not Fortnite experts.

He once was pretty good… but it looks like a case of ‘too much too soon – and things going to his head’.

Dele has been poor agreed, but bringing Moura into the argument is like comparing apples with oranges, Moura gives everything but is poor at best and spends more time on his backside
Dele has been a tremendous player for Spurs back in the Poch days
when Dele and Eriksen were the very reason the team worked so well

I am ot apposed to selling but we should not deny he was once a quality player and that form could return with the right manager

So at this rate of improvement, we might get a 6-7/10 performance out of him in a few months time, as he’s approaching his 26th birthday! And some say he’s never going to make it, shame on you.

Sell. Sell. Sell. Please. I don’t want to spend more time on this joker. Guys roughly the same age like Grealish or Maddison (24) are far, far more interesting players, as are players like Mount (22) and Foden (20) who bypassed Dele and are actually young, talented and promising.

If he was going to make it here, he would have already. Let’s save the love for people worth it.

What were Moura’s stats when he came on? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were similar to Deles’ – BUT – at least Moura attacks with some pace / intent and this can disrupt / unnerve defenders. Dele’s play tends to be more laboured.

I cannot see what Dele brings to the team, plus he doesn’t have the level of commitment I want from players, what is more concerning is the fact he is far from alone in that.

Recent good performances should bump up the value… for when we sell him and buy in someone with a consistently good work-ethic (or even one that can make a lot of key passes… the hallmark of a good AM)

I’m hoping that the warm embrace between Kane, Son and Dele at the end was in recognition of the fact Dele has been sold to Everton for tuppence ha’penny and a pack of Toffos

It’s been reported by Football 365 that Spurs have decided to sell him and are resigned to the fact that they won’t get a big fee for him. It was also reported that he is very difficult to handle behind the scenes.

In fairness its hard for anyone of that ilk to play 2 games in just 4 days or so…just ask Gareth Bale… I struggle to comprehend How Tanguy hasnt started one game since Mason took over…it was nice to see Rondon come on even if it was just for 5 minutes…😉
