“…deal can be wrapped up quickly”- Spurs ‘ready to make a move’ to hijack target from London rivals

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to The Daily Star reporter Alex Wood, Tottenham are ‘ready to make a move’ for Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse.

The report claims that the player has been ‘watched by Spurs scouts’ several times towards the end of last season.

Southampton are refusing to sell him for cheap though and reportedly value him at around £40m. West Ham have had a couple of bids rejected for him, the latest being in the excess of £25m.

The report claims that Spurs ‘would be willing’ to bid close to Southampton’s asking price ‘if a deal can be wrapped up quickly’.

The player himself will not be pushing for a transfer out of respect since he has spent his entire career with the Saints.

Ward-Prowse is regarded as one of the best number 8s in the league and is known for his excellent set-piece skills.

He has scored an impressive 17 direct free-kicks in his Premier League career so far, which is only one goal behind the legendary David Beckham.

Tottenham have already signed James Maddison this summer for £40m and although he has played as an attacking midfielder for The Foxes, there are suggestions that Ange Postecoglou could play him as a number 8 in an attacking role.

It would be interesting see how Tottenham plan on using both the James together if they were to make a move for Ward-Prowse. Regardless, he would still be excellent squad player for Tottenham.

Meanwhile Tottenham are expecting a number of players to be leaving including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon among others.

Even Lo Celso’s future is uncertain. Despite his impressive pre-season performances he could still seek a move away with the likes of Napoli and Aston Villa both interested in signing him.
