Darren bent gives opinion on who will win the race for Premier League star – Tottenham or Arsenal

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham and Arsenal are currently both interested in a move for Chelsea winger, Willian and Darren Bent believes he will be better off if he joins Spurs.

The Brazilian will be out of a contract at the end of this season after extending his deal just to cover to the end of the campaign.

The Blues want to keep him, but they cannot seem to agree on a new deal and that means he will be free to join another team for next season.

He was signed by Jose Mourinho for the Blues in 2013 and after seven years, he might be reunited with the Spurs’ manager.

Bent reckons that the Portuguese manager will play an important role in convincing him to move to Tottenham instead of Arsenal and added that the Brazilian might struggle to get game time at Arsenal, but it will be much easier for him to be first choice at Tottenham.

“If I was Chelsea I’d give Willian a three-year contract,” he said on talkSPORT. “What’s the issue?

“And why would you want one of your best players, who is playing very, very well at the minute and doesn’t look like he’s slowing down, to play for one of your rivals?

“He’s playing as well as anybody right now, so why would you want him to walk out the door for nothing and go and make your rivals stronger? I don’t understand that.

“I’d give him the three years. I would!

“I think Spurs would be in for him with the whole [Jose] Mourinho factor, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal were interested – they want all of Chelsea’s leftovers… this is one I’d actually take, though!

“But, you look at Arsenal’s front line and they’ve got Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka… there are quite a few there so he might not suit Arsenal.

“He might not get as much game time and signing him could also stunt the growth of a player like Martinelli.

“But as far as Spurs, he’d fit right in there.

“Their right hand side has been a problem, they’ve tried Steven Bergwijn and they’re tried Lucas Moura out there and its hasn’t quite worked.

“But if you now go Willian, Harry Kane and Heung-min son, that changes the whole dynamic of that team going forward.”

On a personal note, I have repeatedly stated that I oppose Willian becoming a Tottenham player, however, momentum does appear to be building and it would not surprise me if he did end up at the Tottenham Stadium.

I agree, him and Toby are still the best partnership. Dunno what’s happened to Sánchez, he was awesome in his first season. Never been the same player since the works Cup. The same could e said for Trippier and Dier as well, strange really.

He said he wanted to win pots with us only a few months back. Shame he’s gone. I get it though at his age he wants to be playing every week. I still think he was the best partner for toby. Better than Dier and Sanchez for me. More reliable.. Our squad needs serious attention. So many changes and replacements needed.

Jan is a quality player, he deserved to win something with us with his quality and spending 8 years with us. Levy had other ideas…

Why do we even bother giving space to this guys view, there are plenty of these pundit types who somehow manage to scrape a living by offering such inane , useless bilge, that’s about as informative as reading the weather forecast in the South Pole.

Super Jan ‘has something in his head’ and he’ll see if it works out. Jenas reckons he’s off to manure. Really hope he goes there and tarts alongside maguire. Win a pot or two Jan my man ❤

No way Levy gives him a 3 year contract. My money is on him staying at Chelsea.I think Lampard has realised he still has something to offer that club and not all his youngsters are ready to step up on a regular basis. He’s still one of their most consistent performers.

Don’t care about a Chavski cast off looking for his pension, or what Gooner Darren Bent thinks about him. Bruce Grove seems to be blogging more and more irrelevancies by the day… can we talk about something else? 😂

The problem is the three year contract for a 31 year old winger whose pace could decline and what are you left with.
