Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly unhappy with Antonio Conte’s recent remarks regarding the transfer backing from the club.
A report from Football Insider claims that Levy is not happy with Conte’s comments regarding insufficient transfer backing.
The 53-year-old Italian manager has always maintained that Spurs will have to be more ambitious in the transfer market and bring in better players in order to compete for trophies.
Recently after Tottenham’s exit from the Champions League, Conte has revealed that he needs a solid foundation to succeed at the Premier League club.
Meanwhile, Daniel Levy believes that the Italian manager has been backed considerably in the transfer windows recently.
Tottenham have spent nearly £172 million on new players this season and only two other Premier League clubs have spent more than them.
The London club have signed players like Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Pedro Porro, Clement Lenglet, Arnaut Danjuma, Destiny Udogie and Richarlison during the course of the season. The Londoners also paid for Cristian Romero’s move to be made permanent.
Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster joined the club on free transfers as well.
Even then, Conte has failed to guide them to a trophy and their place in the top four is far from guaranteed.
The Italian will be expected to guide Tottenham into the Champions League next season and it remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly now.
Newcastle and Liverpool are breathing down their necks and Tottenham cannot afford any slip-ups if they want to play in the Champions League next season.
As far as Conte’s future is concerned, the 53-year-old looks increasingly likely to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
