Former Arsenal star, Kevin Campbell believes Tottenham will sign Stefan de Vrij if Antonio Conte wants him because the Italian manager always gets what he wants.
Football Insider revealed earlier that Spurs are interested in a move for the defender and he could join them in the January transfer window.
Campbell believes if Conte truly wants the Inter Milan defender then the transfer would happen because the former Chelsea manager is ruthless when it comes to signing players.
He told Football Insider: “Do they need another centre-half?
“They have got numbers back there.
“Conte will have his own mind of what he wants to do and how he wants to play. They key is signing players who are going to make this team better. They don’t need bodies.
“If De Vrij is the one Conte’s wants, Spurs will go and get him. Conte is very ruthless like that. I’m sure we’ll see him in a Spurs shirt soon.”
The current Tottenham team has several defenders, but most of them are underperforming and Conte will likely offload some of them.
The Italian is one manager who knows exactly what he wants and Spurs’ players would soon see that you either impress him or he cuts you off completely.
One good thing is that his judgement is usually spot on and he has shown in spells at Chelsea and Inter Milan that he can get the best out of the players he deems fit for his system.
These are the early days of his reign, but fans can see what he is trying to do. It is now left to the players to deliver on his instructions on the field and Spurs would win matches consistently again.
