Conte ‘intent on convincing his board of directors’ to sign player he has trailed for ‘several seasons’

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur has been linked with a move for the Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo over the last few days.

Earlier we covered reports that the Italian outfit have turned down an offer from the Premier League club for the highly rated attacking midfielder but it seems that Antonio Conte is determined to sign the Italian.

According to a report from TuttoJuve, the Italian manager is ‘intent on convincing’ the Spurs hierarchy to sign the player and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can agree on a fee in the coming weeks.

The report further adds that Conte has been tracking the midfielder for ‘several seasons’ and he wanted to sign him for Inter Milan as well.

Spurs need to add some creativity to their midfield and the Argentine could prove to be an ideal acquisition for them. Despite his injury problems in recent seasons, Zaniolo remains a coveted prospect in European football and he has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the future.

The 23-year-old midfielder can operate as a number ten and he has the versatility to slot into the wide roles as well.

A world-class coach like Conte could help him develop further and unlock his tremendous potential.

The player could reportedly cost around €50 million this summer and Spurs will probably have to offload some of their fringe players before they can afford him. The Londoners have already brought in six new signings so far.

We did have.. Richarlison, Bissouma and Spence comes to about 90 million. Plus Romero has to be paid for which takes our spending to around 140 million..
We now have to sell some players surely.. It’s not just about transfer fees but also high wages to take in to account balancing the books.
We don’t know exactly what Spurs net income and profit is. We don’t know exactly what’s available to spend, it could be 20, 50 or 100 million. But players like Ndombele and Lo Celso will be holding us back.

I’m still convinced the money was to remove the need to ‘sell before we buy’ as usual but the club would still like to recoup most of the money through sales.

Maybe not, but I’ll be amazed if the net spend reads £150 million at the close of this window.

I’m all for getting rid of players that aren’t wanted, but haven’t we got 150million pounds to spend?
