First bid rejected but Fabio Paratici could still pull off Spurs’ deal of the summer – opinion

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham reportedly had an opening bid rejected for AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, however, Fabio Paratici is said to be still working on the deal.

According to Calciomercato.it, Spurs made a £25million plus Joe Rodon bid for AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo but saw their offer quickly rejected by the Italian club. Daniele Longo reported earlier this week that Fabio had traveled to Italy to discuss deals for the exit-bound Tanganga, and Bryan Gil and work on a deal for Roma’s Zaniolo.

The reports from Calciomercato.it claim that the Italian has 2 years left in his contract but could be on his way out following the arrival of Paulo Dybala. It also says that even though they turned the bid down, they’ll be willing to sell the player for a straight cash offer according to his market valuation.

Another report from Express states that Tottenham are looking to raise up to £120.6m with sales to help Antonio Conte continue his summer signings with Zainolo said to be next on his wishlist. Raising another £120.6m on top of the £31.8m that has already come in from the sale of Steven Bergwijn and Carter-Vickers would balance the books for Spurs leaving sufficient money for them to go after the Roma star.

The 23-year-old is regarded as one of Italy’s best young talents who enjoyed a remarkable season last season. He was involved in 17 goals in 42 games helping Roma win the inaugural Europa Conference League. While he is predominantly an attacking midfielder, he can also play on either flanks as well as upfront.

He might be the final piece of the puzzle that Antonio Conte needs in his team and if Conte gets his final wish fulfilled by Fabio Paratici, it could turn out to be the deal of the summer for Spurs and can make them genuine contenders for silverware next season.

Spurs will be adding to the transfer kitty as teams pay off the transfer instalments.

Sounds a lot like Lamela: injury prone, successful in Italy, young talent etc. Just hope we don’t sign him and then hear from Conte the very next day saying he didn’t really want him.
