Confirmed Tottenham starting XI to face Antwerp – Bale and Vinicius start

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will be looking to make it six points from two Europa League games this evening against Belgium outfit, Antwerp.

Spurs are on a roll right now, they are gaining wins by whatever means are required and it is anyone’s guess what we will see tonight. It could be another high scoring comfortable win or a tough game that required a bit of grit and determination.

Of course, Antwerp will not be a walkover, they will be competitive but the way Spurs are playing right now, they should come away with the win.

It should be noted that Antwerp top the Belgium league and have won their last five competitive games on the trot.

But the truth is that the Belgium first division and English Premier League are a million miles apart and Jose Mourinho will not be a happy man if his side does not emerge victorious.

Anyway, this is the team the Portuguese has gone with. Let us know in the comments below what you think and what your predicted score is.

Keeping the ball under pressure and making good decisions quickly can be hard. They should be able to protect and pass the thing accurately though

That is what makes football a great game. It makes no difference how many times you hit the post, nearly score. You have to put it in the old onion sack. Antwerp managed it.

We played against a confident hardworking championship side with a untried starting 11 who maybe started with a we are to good for this lot attitude ,as seen it didnt work.
Its a group stage and we will still get through ,Maureen would have learnt a little about his squad .
Was it just me but did Bale look very uneasy and a bit unsure of himself?

Levy spent similar amounts of money on players (maybe not wages ok) for Poch – it’s just Jose seems to be a canny old bird with the window, and quite pragmatic/realistic.

When our players are firing we play as entertainingly under Jose as Poch. I think this is the season we judge as the squad gets going – tonight was awful, I expect a reaction against Brighton but more than that I expect the key players to start going through the gears and shake off the last of that ‘pre season’ feel.

It’s not the first time we haven’t played well in this competition, these games are about on the day, and on this day it didn’t happen, even with h/t changes. I thought they were very good , but from our point of view, I think Mourinho is trying to get the squad to gel by giving players chances and mixing it up. It didn’t work tonight but at least he is learning about all his players by doing so.

TBF Poch was never supported by Levy in the transfer market was he? Mou has been so no excuses there.
I don’t see any real improvement in our displays to when Mou took over tbh. We have one or two good games then it always goes pear shaped again. We’re too inconsistent and play some dreary football that gives the opposition too much respect. We were lucky against Burnley too.
But of course al lot of this is just because I’m f-d off with the game. Hopefully it was just a one off.

If Jose wanted to win then play your strongest 11. We cannot afford to chop and change and expect good results when at least 5 or 6 of the changes are sub standard journeyman footballers. Jose gambled and we lost.

This was a huge game for them, their biggest in years. They have been love bombing the Spurs all week talking about how it will be a miracle if they beat Spurs. We went sleep walking into that match and couldn’t match their zeal. We were caught cold, lesson learned, spank them at the lane.

Chelsea are lower in the league if you want to do the stats. They’re struggling.

Poch on the crest of a wave was great…then he ‘resigned’ and threw in the towel before a ball was kicked in the CL and the rest is history. What’s your point? Go back in a time machine and get Paul McKenna to brainwash him to believe he could win.

It’s over, let it go. Why compare? Different side, different manager – Poch was over long before he left the building. Relegation form for 12 months of PL football…pretty lucky they didn’t run in a single season tbh

Look this is the sort of team you don’t want to fall behind against, exactly like Burnley the other night. If they get the first goal they put 11 men behind the ball and then hit you on the counter over and over while fouling and fighting their way to a clean sheet. We need to learn how to break down teams like this but that’s easier said than done, the majority of teams in the Premier league would have struggled in the situation we found ourselves in tonight, but most of them wouldn’t find themselves in that situation. That was the most Tottenham goal to give away and something that Jose was brought in to sort out, he couldn’t do it at Utd and he’s struggling to do it here. If he can’t coach these cretins to defend then get some decent defenders in in January and sort this mess out.

They duped us with their David v Goliath rhetoric all week and Spurs thought they just had to turn up. Jose is learning there is still plenty of deadwood in the squad while players like Bale and LoCelso are not fit enough yet. Vinicius gets a free pass for now. Dele is gone and Bergwjin looks a bit low on confidence.

BARD

Bale is miles off. Dele has run out of time. Moura regularly poor as is Bergwijn. We have 1 ageing quality centre half and 1 good full back. Otherwise it’s all looking rosy in the garden.

We’ve had as many new players as Chelsea who are also struggling…let’s wait a tiny bit longer before going totally overboard in judgements

We’ve had three halves of football in the Premier League that made us look easily the strongest side in the league.
