Club will regret letting Tottenham defender go after latest injury crisis

By Mehdi Gokal -

Manchester United will regret cancelling Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal as they undergo major left-back crisis.

They signed the Spaniard in the summer on a loan deal after injury to Luke Shaw. But upon his return, he saw his game time get limited and eventually they triggered the option to cancel his loan deal early.

Reguilon returned to Spurs in the January window but did not stick around for long as the club loaned him out to Brentford for the remainder of the season.

But United’s decision to end his loan deal will come to bite them now as they are poised to end their season without a left-back, as per ESPN.

Malacia has been ruled out for the rest of the season while Luke Shaw has suffered an injury again and is set to potentially be out for the season as well.

Erik ten Hag will certainly be rueing the decision to let Reguilon leave.

Meanwhile the Spain defender has claimed that he was left baffled by Tottenham’s decision to loan him out in a recent interview.

He revealed that he had positive conversation with Ange in pre-season who assured him he is in his plans. However, the 58-year-old chose to leave him out of training the very next day which left him surprised.

Reguilon joined the club in 2020 and enjoyed a great debut season. But he struggled in the season after and was eventually loaned to Atletico Madrid in 2022.

He has not played for Spurs since and it is possible that he may not play for them again. The club will be in hunt for new left-backs in the summer given Ryan Sessegnon’s shocking injury history and Reguilon’s failure to impress the manager.
