There is always a lot of debate over what is a big club, is it finances, stadiums, history and so on but when it comes down to it, players are what determines a big club.
Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne has been linked with a move to Tottenham for some time now (GivemeSport) and he has recently spoken about those alleged links.
The 24-year-old Belgian international is fully aware of the interest and has accepted that now is probably the best time for him to move from the Italian side.
Speaking to Belgium media outlet La Derniere Heure, Castagne said as quoted by the Standard,
“I think the time has come to move on, but I won’t be disappointed if I stay,”
“I’m very proud of this. It’s proof that hard work pays off. I hope it’s more than just simple interest from them.”
Now, it turns out that Castagne was a childhood Arsenal fan, however, it appears that had more to do with Theirry Henry as opposed to the club itself.
“I was especially a fan when Thierry Henry played for them. Now I’m not so much,” he revealed.
And if that was not enough he made it absolutely clear how big a club Tottenham really is saying,
“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”
I have to say that I already like Castagne, not only does he bracket Tottenham alongside PSG but he no longer rates Arsenal.
Players know what is a big club, they know which teams are more likely to be challenging for silverware and that can match their ambitions and in the case of Castagne, Tottenham is a big club and for the want of a better phrase, Arsenal is utter rubbish.
